Walter Oatman (442)

Walter (Elias, Benjamin, George, John, Johannes), son of Elias and Eliza (Bunce) Oatman, was born 15 August 1827, Jefferson County, New York, and died 31 October 1879, Adams, Jefferson County. He is buried in State Road (Honeyville) Cemetery at Adams Center. Walter married Martha Ann Parker, born 8 May 1831, Norwich, Oxford County, Ontario, daughter of Richard Carlton and Prudence (Smith) Parker, and died 20 September 1926. They are buried at State Road (Honeyville) Cemetery. Her sister, Phila, married Walter's brother Edward. Walter was a shoemaker. After their marriage 10 August 1853 in Honeyville, they established a home there where their three children were born. They were members of the Honeyville Baptist Church, the first Baptist church built in the town of Adams. After his death, Martha continued to live in the area of Honeyville, which is about one mile east of Adams Center, New York.

1472 Maria D., b. 24 Aug 1854. The 1860 census lists a 5-year-old female child, D.D., b. ca 1855, probably Maria. On 24 Aug 1873 at her parents' home she m. Robert D. Loveland, b. 1848, Adams, NY, son of David and Phebe (Seely) Loveland, d. Mar 1937, Honeyville. Lived first in Adams Center, moving to Watertown for 23 years where he was a machinist at Air Brake. Purchased a farm near Honeyville, conductimg a general merchandise and grocery store there for nine years until failing health forced his retirement. An early collector of Indian relics, whose collection was deemed to be largest and most complete in New York. Bur. State Road (Honeyville) Cemetery, Adams Center, NY. Children, surname Loveland:

A Walter, lived Rhinebeck, NY. Children: Martha, lived Fort Royal, VA, and Arthur, served in U.S. Navy, WWII.
