Happy Independence Day

The Commonwealth of the Bahamas, or the Bahama Islands, my home country, celebrates its independence on July 10th. In 1973 the Bahamas became independent from Britain and we are still under good terms. There was no war, and the main reason for wanting self-rule was because even though England had bought us and claimed us long ago, they didn't seem to care about us much. But anyway, the Queen is still our "head of state", and she is on our dollar bill.We have a lot of customs and sayings left over from the British, and we drive on the left side of the road like there, too. The flag was inspired by its scenic location. The aquamarine stands for the crystal clear waters, the gold is for its sandy beaches, and the black is a symbol of unity.

The Bahamian National Anthem
Lift, up your head,
To the rising sun Bahama land,
March on to glory
Your bright banners waving high.
See how the world,
Marks the manner of your bearing!
Pledge to excel, through love and unity.
Pressing onward, tho' the weather,
Hides the wide and treachorous shoal.
Lift up your head,
To the rising sun Bahamaland,
Tho' the road you have trod,
Leads unto your God!
March on, Bahama land!

The Bahamian National Pledge
I pledge my allegiance to the flag
And to the Commonwealth of the Bahamas
For which it stands;
One people united in love and service.

Even though I live in the Bahamas, I was born in the United States. I have lived in the Bahamas all of my life, except for the first few days when I came into the world.
America became independent and known as the United States of America in 1776 on July 4th. They had to fight for their freedom, and they very much deserved it. God has had His hand on America, and the USA as prospered, but they have slipped away from God. If only they would have kept the faith taught to them by their founding fathers. God bless America!

Teach America To Pray
May our good land be true and just,
Her motto e'er "In God We Trust"
May she be guided by Thy Word,
Thy wisdom in her walls be heard.
May all who love her plead today,
Lord, teach America to Pray!
And as her flag unfurls on high
Its starry splendor to the sky,
May we, in grateful thanks to Thee
Who gave to us this land so free,
Preserve her freedom in Thy way.
Lord, teach America to Pray

I have British friends, so we cannot forget Jolly Old England, also known as Britain and the United Kingdom. The Union Jack flag was created in 1603 by King James VI of Scotland when he became the king of England. England's red cross of St. George was combined with Scotland's white cross of St. Andrew, and then later on King George III added the Cross of St. Patrick, patron Saint of Ireland in 1801. This flag was flown on the Royal Navy's ships and was referred to as the "Union Jack."

I also have Canadian internet epals and friends in Canada. Canada Day is celebrated July 1st. The flag bears the national emblem, the maple leaf. The Pacific and Atlantic oceans are represented on each end by the color red. The red of the leaf symbolizes the blood shed by Canadians during World War One. The center color white stands for the abundance of snow in the country of Canada.
