DREAM PILLOWS

I dream every night.
I know I do.
I'm one of those people that processes information at such
a fast rate that my subconscious mind has to have its spewing time
-- and sometimes it spews at such a high volume,
I really cannot remember it all.

I have found that a dream pillow can help with that spewing.
You may find several different "recipes" for pillows;
I choose to share mine, and you can compare.

The herbs and the colors of fabric may vary depending
on whether you want to induce certain
types of dreams, or to prevent them.
For example, whenever I have to sleep in a location
I have never previously visited, I always had nightmares.
Thankfully, a friend introduced me to sweetgrass and now
I try not to leave home without it.

All my pillows are made from one square of cloth
with silver thread, and usually I trace a rune
on the front with chalk, or stitch the rune
with the silver thread.
Most of my dream pillows are dark blue,
although I will occassionally use black
-- both to me represent hidden knowledge, and I associate them
with the information and wisdom I sometimes hide from myself.

To Remember Dreams
1 part lavendar
1 part sage
1 part rosemary

Rune: Rad
-- associated with Mercury and communication;
I charge this to improve the communication
between my waking and sleeping self.

To Prevent Nightmares
1 part sweetgrass
1 part white sage
a pinch of myrhh, frankincense or cinnamon also,
if I have enough to spare, I burn a little sweetgrass
in a dish beside my bed

Rune: Eohl -- signifies protection.

If I have nightmares anyway, or if my nightmares continue,
then it always means that there is something
I need to be aware of.
When this happens, I spend time doing rituals
to awaken subconscious knowledge.

I write down and analyze my nightmare, and see if there
is something else I am missing.

If I am still having problems, I use this as one of my aids:

To Awaken Hidden Knowledge
1 part myrrh
1 part vervain
1 part frankincense

Rune: ken, the torch.
I try to draw this on with yellow or orange chalk
to signify illumination.

Other herbs that are popular to use in dream pillows include:
jasmine flowers
hops
patchouli
peppermint

All have different qualities;
I try to choose by symbolic meaning, using a guide
such as Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Herbs.

After awhile, you may begin to recognize certain scents
as particularly evocative for you, and apply those as you see fit.

Many times what they evoke does fit their symbolic meaning.

To use my dream pillow, I simply place it underneath
my pillow, or next to my head where I'm lying.
