Mullein
![]() Mullein verbascum thapsus verbascum thapus Scrophularace Saturn Jupiter Fire Associations and Magickal History Mullein is a plant of Jupiter and Saturn. It is associated with the element of Fire. And it is associated with Ulysses, since he took Mullein with him to protect himself against the wiles of Circe. Mullein is associated with Witches in general. The down on the leaves and stem of Mullein makes excellent tinder when quite dry, readily igniting on the slightest spark, and was, before the introduction of cotton, used for lamp wicks. This is where 'Candlewick Plant', one of the common names of Mullein, comes from. An old superstition existed that witches in their incantations used lamps and candles provided with wicks of this sort, and another of the plant's many names, 'Hag's Taper', refers to. 'Torches' is another name for the plant, since it is said that the ancients used the stalks dipped in suet to burn as torches at whether at funerals or otherwise. Magickal Use |
