|What's a Hat Tournament?
The way a Hat Tournament functions is that instead of registering an entire team in advance of the tournament, you register as an individual. Once all registration forms are in, teams are formed somewhat arbitrarily (akin to pulling names out of a hat.) Only the basic information from your application form (basic skills, height, gender) will be used in an attempt to make teams fair and competitive.
What time must I show up?
Registration/Team Assignments occur between 9:30 and 10:30AM, and the first game starts at 11AM sharp.
If you're a wedding guest, and you're a little hung over, then you're in luck. For you, registration occurs between 9:30 and 10:30AM, and the first game starts at 11AM sharp.
(That's 11AM REAL time. Please do not show up at 10:45 hoping to ease right on to your team.)
If I'm a wedding guest, do I still have to register and pay?
You do have to register, but you will not have to pay.
Can I play if I am under 18?
Yes; please send email email@example.com and I will send you a Juniors waiver form to be signed by your parent/guardian.
Are there a limited number of spots?
Yes! We have limited field space so there are a maximum number of people that can play. Beat the rush! Get your bid in early, and secure your place in history!
Why does it cost more to sign up the day of the game?
To make people sign up beforehand! Signing up the day of the game means more last-minute paperwork, and more hassle.
What happens if it rains?
Unfortunately, Morris County has a policy where they might cancel the tournament if there is a risk of ruining the fields. I am working with them to see if there is a way to prevent that. When you register I will fill you in on any last-minute news. (I'll probably set up an answering machine somewhere. All in good time...)
Can you help me out? I'm new to Ultimate Frisbee.
The most important thing for you to remember is that this tournament is being run like any other traditional tournament. I want to make sure everyone has a good time so I strongly recommend you come prepared! Click the For Beginners section to your right.
Should I ask Zach and Denise questions about the tournament?
Only if you enjoy disturbing people under incredible stress. Seriously, please leave them alone with regards to the tournament. That's what a best man (or in my case, tournament director) is for.
