Interview with Ed
Jones
By Alicia Motta |
Can you tell us
about your musical roots? What was the first band
you were in and what happened to it?
The very first band I was in was called "Majesty".
It went through several name changes and ended up being
called "Euphoria". It was a three piece
with myself on bass guitar, Erv Lacy on guitar, and Jeff
Jerome on drums. It disbanded in 1982 because we
all had to earn a living. I ended up in another
band with Erv before his untimely death in 1992.
A lot of your songs have an angry tone/theme--what,
in your life, is the source of all the lyrical strife?
Bad relationships, stupid people, bad choices, you know
the usual stuff that pisses one off.
What do you feel is your best song and why?
I don't have a favorite per say, but I do favor the songs
that are more about something other than getting laid, or
attractions with the opposite sex.
What do you hope to be when you grow up (hahaha!).
Songwriting? Studio musician? Performer? What?
I just want to be able to make money off of something
that I have worked so hard at, and spent so much time on.
I do still like to perform! There is nothing like
that instant gratification of having that feedback from a
live audience. But I do enjoy working in a studio.
What bands influenced you or what bands do you
sound like?
Kiss was an early influence. I think I get my pop
senseability from Cheap Trick, and I just love anything
Rush has ever done. As far as a bass guitar player,
definately Geddy Lee is the guy.
What if so and so came up to you and said "I
like your song, I want to record it"?
I would have no problems with that. In fact as a
song writer, I would be curious to see how somebody else
might interperet one of my songs!
Do you have a manager, attorney, fan club, etc?
As of yet, I do all of those responsibilities. It
takes a lot of time, and does take away from being able
to create music. Why, are you volunteering somebody
for those duties? (laughs).
Where can I
see you perform?
Actually right now you can only hear me on the web.
A few sites are www.garageband.com, www.iuma.com, and www.mp3.com. Just do a search for
"Tainted Emotions".
