A remembrance of Christmas past... |
A nickle and two dimes. Twenty-five cents. Her father had slipped her a few pennies at a time for candy. She saved most of it. Kress Drug store had what she wanted. It was no more than a foot tall and she was able to buy it along with three colored balls. She sat on the floor behind the big overstuffed chair in the living room arranging and re-arranging her treasure. |

Her Grandmother grumbled as she walked past. Her Mother said, "She's not hurting anything. She bought it with her own money. She just wants to be like her classmates...just think of it as a Hanukkah bush." |
"Just keep it out of my sight," the Grandmother said as she stomped out. Annie looked over at her five-year old daughter, who looked up apprehensively. She smiled and gave her daughter a wink. Marian pursed her lips and grinned with the corners of her mouth and went back to arranging the ornaments on her Christmas tree. |
