Dream Demons...
"What do you mean by introductions?" Lilly asked.  She put her head to Eddie's chest and listened very carefully.
"I mean explain your powers, why you are here, and as much background as might prove necess...what are you doing?" Eddie asked, feeling rather awkward having anyone this close to him.  He hadn't had a human form for quite some time now.
"Listening to see if you tick.  You do!" Lilly seemed rather pleased with herself as she practically skipped back to the bed to sit next to Sarai.  Eddie looked at her strangely, then turned to Emma.
"Why don't you go first?"
"Well, umm I was born looking normal, but, uh, I got the cat ears and tail when my first pet died.  I couldn't get them to go away, so my parents took me out of school and got me tutors.  When Sarai showed up in town and destroyed a nightmare, my father thought it would be best if I went with her.  I'm not exactly sure what my powers are.  I can apparently see memories and get different animal characteristics," Emma said, she flapped her wings to prove her already obvious point.  Her feet came a few inches off the ground.  Instantly she stopped flapping, and she fell with a thud.  Emma blushed a little, but said nothing.
"Avana?"
"I invent things and move them with my mind.  I'm here to pay off my debt, nothing more," she said, grabbing her wings from the corner.  Her eyes glared at the others as she put them on..  She practically dared anyone to ask more about her past than that.  Emma was already aware of Avana's testiness as far as her past went.
"Ooh!  Me next!  My names Lilly!  I have powers too!  I can control people's emotions!  I don't like to do it, but it's fun to make people laugh sometimes!  My parents love to laugh.  They also like to help people.  Which is why they started this hotel chain.  It began before I was born.  I---"
"We know.  You already told us," Avana cut in.  Once again, Lilly remained unphased.  "So what's the deal with you two?  The whole watch thing is weirder than fighting nightmares.  But it is a bit suspicious that didn't you want to fight the nightmares earlier, but now you're all 'we must find him and stop him.'"
Sarai shrugged.
"Not believable enough for you?  I'll be more consistent from now on.  I found out about my powers a while ago, and ever since I've been trying to figure out how to get rid of them.  I figured admitting I was just after this guy so I can kill him and go back to being normal wouldn't be the best motivation.  Emma and Lilly would like the whole save the world speech better."
"So what's the truth?" Avana asked again.
"It's all true.  I'm just not really in it for saving people.  When he dies, the world is no longer in danger and there is no need for us.  At that point, we get to decide if we want to keep our powers or be normal."
"How did you find all this out?"
Sarai became very quiet.
"You don't want to know."
"She stole me from an old gypsy who claimed to be psychic," Eddie pitched in.
"Sarai said you were useless," Emma said, more concerned with Eddie's secrets than with Sarai's.  Sarai didn't feel like she was lying.
"He was.  A watch that doesn't tell time and can't recall its past.  Useless.  And he keeps trying to get me killed."
"I do not.  You have an obligation to save those people."
"We've  already discussed this.  The nightmares are not my problem.  Only this sorcerer guy is."
"You mean Derek?" Eddie asked.
"I thought you said we don't know he is?"
"That's because I didn't know.  Did you forget to tell me something Eddie?"  She turned on Eddie, her anger boiling quietly beneath the surface.  She was quiet, expectant, and deadly.  Eddie was backed into the wall and he put his hands up defensively.
"Don't kill me!  It's not my fault.  The whole watch thing was blocking my powers.  I just now found this out."
"What powers?"
"I can see the future, and you guys where ever you happen to be.  It's supposed to help me be your guardian.  It just doesn't work when I don't have any eyes to see the visions."
"Well, then where is this Derek guy?"
"I, umm, don't know.  My vision didn't show me."
"Can't you look again?"  Lilly suggested.
Eddie rubbed the back of his neck.
"Umm, no.  I can't.  Visions of the future aren't as clear as visions of the present.  And I can only watch you four in the present.  So...umm...no," he explained.  Sarai sat down on the bed, and Eddie began to relax once more.  She was appeased by his answer.
"Do you remember you past now?" Emma asked, curious about the memory she had seen.
"No.  It's still a loss to me."  No one but Emma seemed to notice how Eddie's breathing changed slightly.  He was lying.
"Ooh!  Emma can see memories!  Maybe she can find out!  Then we'd know more about this Derek guy.  I know a Derek.  He's really cute!  Maybe he's the one we're looking for!"
"I highly doubt that," Avana said.  "This guy's a sorcerer.  I doubt anyone would describe him as cute."
"That may be true.  But I would like to try with the memories," Emma said.  "It will give me a chance to practice my powers"
Eddie backed against the wall, bumping his elbow.
"Ow.  Umm, I don't think that's a good idea.  We should get---"
"AIEEE!"  The scream from outside saved Eddie an explanation.  The girls ran, some faster than others, to the window and looked out.  Eddie just rubbed his elbow.
"Another nightmare?" Emma asked.
"Looks like it." Sarai muttered.
"Shall we fight it?" Avana said.  Her axe was already in hand.
"No.  We should get---" The whole building shook as the wall was torn away.  Lilly who was closest to the window slipped and fell first, Emma and Avana closely behind her.  Sarai fell backwards, landing at Eddie's feet.
"Sure about that?" he asked with a grin.
"Don't say a word," she said.  She turned to see what had become of her motley group of travellers.  Avana had managed to grab Lilly and was hovering near where the window had been.  Emma was not to be seen.  Sarai ran to the window and saw the red feathers clenched in the mouth of their latest terror.
"Great.  Just what I wanted to do with my morning," Sarai said.  She shook her head in exasperation and took a running leap out of the building...
