Revelations |
Sarai hit the ground running. She was guessing this child was a little older than the previous two. The younger one's were more creative. The giant canine jerked and looked down at Sarai as if something had startled it. Then the other heads looked down as well. Cerberus had three heads. This dog had seven, and all seven now found Sarai to be the most interesting thing around. Emma's wings were caught in the teeth of one of the heads, as her body dangled helpless as a new chewtoy. "What do I look like, a bone?" Sarai muttered, running around the dogs legs, trying to get the creature a fair shot at her. If her memory served correctly, Cerberus was brought down by the jealousy between the heads. With seven heads, there would be more disfunctionality in this creature. With astounding coordination, the heads attacked as their necks stretched out to incredible lengths in a amazing pattern that would leave most people disoriented. Sarai was not most people. The pattern had a hole in it. With Emma keeping one head distracted, there was a space left open in this coordinated action. That would be the key. Her tiny body was not made for so much running and jumping and secretly she swore to start working out everyday. The end of the street approached and Sarai saw the plan. They were backing her against the wall. She turned to make her stand, her hands glowing and pulsating with the black sparks. "Very well. Here we go again," she muttered. There were too many heads to hit them all at once. They came at her, two at a time. She shot out and managed to knock out one then the other, but as soon as they went down, more came at her. It seemed like she couldn't keep up. The creatures would shake off her magic and attack again with more fury. Sarai could hear screams in the background, and recognized them as Emma's. Her eyes darted to Emma, who was still alive, just being shaken back and forth. Her face was full of pain and fear as the creature tried to rip off her wings. A gasp escaped Sarai's lips as the dog's head slammed her into the wall. Her breath left her as she sank to the pavement. A smile seemed to cross the faces of the dog as one head came down to consume Sarai. CRACK! Sarai was surprised to find herself still alive. Avana pulled up her axe to swing again as another head came up behind her. Sarai shot out her black magic at the beast's eyes. The howl of pain drew Avana's attention. "The pattern!" Sarai called out as the creatures began to move. "I know! Move!" Avana called back, aiming for the throat of another head. "EMMA!" Lilly's voice screamed above the noise. Sarai was running before she realized what she was doing. She saw Lilly and Eddie safely standing on what used to be their hotel room. Following their eyes, she spotted a head pulling back on something covered in red. It's paw kept the body hidden and still as it tried actually tore the wings off of Emma's body. "No!" Sarai felt the black sparks weaving all the way up her arms as the fury built in her. She had never broken a promise, and she was NOT going to start now. Black energy blazed through the air at the head. The dog was now down to six heads, four of which remembered their original prey. They came at Sarai, who was more than ready for them this time. She had enough anger in her, that her eyes and arms had become consumed by the black magic. Before she could fire three of the dogs suddenly yipped out with joy. Lilly had jumped onto the creature's back and seemed to be keeping the three heads at bay. Avana had managed to regain the interest of the other three, but wasn't fairing as well. "One shot. You better hope heads aren't the only body part in which you have extra," Sarai said. Once more the air cracked with the dark magic. Unfortunately for the dog, it didn't have extra hearts. The blast tore up it's chest and seared a rather large hole. It was dead before it hit the ground. Lilly rolled to a stop, unhurt and smiling as usual. Avana had taken to the air once more, apparently upset she had not been able to repay the debt early. Taking note that the others were alive, Sarai ran to the crumpled heap of Emma. The others saw her concern and hurried to join her. Blood was pooring out of her back from where the wings had once been. "This had better work," Sarai muttered. The black turned to grey, then to white sparks of light. She touched Emma's shoulder and the sparks danced around her body, flowing to each injury. The most sparks surrounded the bloody stubs on her back. The blood dried, scabbed, then vanished. The skin smoothed itself out. Sarai could feel herself tiring but she kept it up. A long white and orange bushy tail protruded from Emma's body along with two pointy fox ears. Her eyes fluttered open and she looked at Sarai. Sarai gasped and pulled her hand back. She had expected a smile maybe, but her eyes were over run with...pity! Too tired to try to understand, Sarai's body gave out and she fainted. Eddie's strong arms reached down to pick her up. "We better get out of here. I think we're being watched," he said quietly as Emma stood up. Her ears perked up and she looked around. She could sense it now too. She sniffed the air delicately and could smell only the dead nightmare and the distinct smell of their group. Everyone else had run away. So who was watching. She pushed her concerns to the back of her mind to consider the more important matter. This young man with the British accent and unsettling grey eyes was more worriesome than this Derek person. A traitor would be more dangerous than any enemy. Before this journey was through she had to figure out what Eddie was hiding... |
