Dow Jones 12,000: Symbolizing 1 Edward 2 Charles
Recent significant record high level in Dow
Jones index on Wednesday Oct.18, 2006, whereas it reached new high of 12,000 -- the first time in 110 year history,
is like containing the meaning related to the history of Dow Jones. In
1882
Dow,
Jones & Company (as it was called in the beginning) was developed in
a small basement office at 15 Wall Street in New York, started by
producing daily hand-written news bulletins called "flimsies" delivered
by messenger to subscribers in the Wall Street area, and the
founders were Charles Henry Dow, Edward Davis Jones and
Charles Milford Bergstresser. So there were 1 Edward and 2 Charles,
and the recent 12,000 level for me is like symbolizing the 1 Edward and 2 Charles.
There could be also a question about how did
it was mentioned as the first time in 110 year history. According
to the history at the Dow Jones website,
the Dow Jones Industrial Average was officially launched in 1896 or 110
years ago. At that time,
it consisted of industrial stocks only.

FTSE 100 closes at five-year high
London’s FTSE 100
hit a fresh five-year high on Friday, as
strength in the oil and mining sectors offset
profit taking among financial stocks.
The FTSE 100 gained 0.6 per cent to close at
6,157.3, while the mid-cap FTSE 250 hit a record
10,399.6, up 0.5 per cent.
London’s benchmark index has lagged the recent
rally which has driven European and Asian
indices to fresh multi-year highs.
Meanwhile, the Dow Jones Industrial Average has
hit a series of all-time closing highs, while
the broader S&P 500
has traded at levels not seen for five years.
With its higher weighting of oil and mining
stocks – the market capitalisations of BP (LSE:
BP.L -
news) and Royal Dutch Shell (Amsterdam:
RDSA.AS -
news) together account for around 20 per
cent of the FTSE 100 – the index has suffered
more than its European counterparts in the
recent commodity sell off.
Crude prices have fallen by 25 per cent since
their July peaks.
But a rally for oil prices on Friday helped the
energy sector higher, and BP closed 1.9 per cent
higher to 592½p while BG Group (LSE:
BG.L -
news) was up 1.4 per cent at 684p.
In the volatile mining sector, BHP Billiton rose
2.8 per cent to close at 999p, while Kazakhmys
(LSE:
KAZ.L -
news) added 1.9 per cent to £11.94 .

Around the time when Dow Jones index hit an
all-time high, surpassing the previous record made in 2000, in
New York, the London FTSE 100 also reaching the higher level,
closes at five-year high. I hope this is the sign of increasingly better
economic situation in the world, and could also become a part of closing
the window of disaster.

Painting
design of Paris Hilton with Bali fan dancer, the
painting size of 89 x 145 cm, whereas
Paris Hilton is at the down right part of this
painting. This painting was started at August 3, 2006.
It was
then followed by an appearance of Paris Hilton on August
24, 2006 whereas she was going down the
stairs like in the photo below.

Industrial & Commercial Bank of
China (ICBC) have successfully launched their IPO on Octo0br 27,
3006, that becomes the world's largest share sale to raise
US$21.9 billion.
For me the name of ICBC sounds like related
to the painting of Paris Bali Fan Dancer, whereas the ICBC is like "I
see what the Bali dancer see...."

Of course this may have nothing to do
with my painting of Paris Bali Fan Dancer, nevertheless it is nice to
place here the photos of Chinese volunteers for Olympic 2008 holding
fans in the famous huge China wall.
