Scheduled for 6 June 2008, my ex-senior high school friends planned an evening gathering at Sate Jono Pejompongan. Sate, or sometimes called satay, is a famous Indonesian food made of slices of dice-sized meat, usually chicken, goat, or beef, stabbed by bamboo stick, then grilled or barbecued over a wood or charcoal fire, then served with various spicy seasonings.

The satay at Sate Jono that my friends planned to eat was made of goat meat.

I considered the gathering as important since it was also to welcome my friend Budi Witandoko or usually called Buce who had never meet most of my friends and me for so long since graduating from senior high school. He is now working at government electric company in Jakarta, but his residence is in Malang, East Java.

Unfortunately, when that evening of 6 June came, I was too tired to attend it after repairing the broken glass window in my niece' bedroom, that I worked until the dusk.

A few days later my friend Dyana proposed an idea to have another gathering. My other friends agreed, and the plan was arranged, this time the gathering would be on 27 June 2008, and the place would be at Warung Daun, an organic food restaurant at Kebayoran, South Jakarta. My friend Cynthia began to list those who would like to participate.

I could not immediately gave positive response, because the name Warung Daun sounds a little bit like the English word "down", and it would be like opposing my own consent to move up to the eternity soon. On the other hand, I still considered it important to meet my old friend Buce, and especially this time it would also to welcome my other friend Herry Latief who came from the Netherlands for several days visit.

So on 12 June 2008, I made a strange response: " ……put me on number 40 at the list….."

This has certain meaning, since my name is Firman which in Dutch or German "fir" has the meaning of "four", so number 40 means "Firman Zero" or "Firman Dies", in accordance with my consent to move to the eternity. It also means that even if I attended the gathering, it would not against my consent to become "zero" or "die".

Just one day before 27 June 2008, the list of people to attend it had reach more than 40, although some of those lists were later on cancelled. And the next day I did attend the gathering, because otherwise it would be like I cancelled my consent to become 40.

Nevertheless, something tragic happened, a disaster took place one day before the event, a CASA 212 plane of the Indonesian Air Force crashed on the foot of mount Salak, West Java, killing all 18 people inside. Three of them were foreigners from England, India and Singapore, the other three were Indonesians from a digital mapping company. The rest twelve of them were from Indonesian Air Force. The plane was from the Air Force Base Squadron 4 at Malang, the same city with the residence of my friend Buce.

Just one day before my attending the gathering with my ex-senior high school friends at Warung Daun on 27 June 2008, a disaster happened, a CASA 212 plane of the Indonesian Air Force crashed on the foot of mountain Salak, West Java, killing all 18 people inside. Three of them were foreigners from England, India and Singapore, the other three were Indonesians from a digital mapping company. The rest twelve of them were from Indonesian Air Force.

They were to test a new digital mapping instrument that the Indonesian Air Force was planning to purchase. The plane was from the Air Force Base Squadron 4 at Malang, just like the residence of my friend Buce.
