I was looking through the paper for the cheapest car money could buy, and came across the savior of boring, mistakenly put in the truck section. I called, and the car was still available. Chris and I drove out to look at it(He almost got us killed and almost got his ass kicked at the same time). We were mis guided in finding the house the car was at, so called from a Caseys about 2 miles from the car. We called, and the guy said he would meet us at the Casey's. We were standing out side talking about what the car was going to look like. In the distance, we heard loud obnoxious exhaust noises. About 2 minutes later, we see a cloud of smoke ingulfing a little '79 Datsun. At that pointe, Chris and I looked at each other and agreed it was going to be ours. We ended up buying it for $125.00. Chris and I was eating breakfast one morning at Perkins, (about 6am, we had stayed up all night), trying to think of something to do, we thought "lets paint the beast." We came up with all kinds of different paint schemes, but the one that struck us the best was to paint it red and white striped like a candy cane, and we would then put a reeth on the front(it was about a month from Christmas. As soon as K-Mart opened we were at the door waiting. We went straight for the cheapest cans of paint we could find. As soon as we saw all the pretty colors, we couldnt resist. Three rolls of masking tape, a dozen cans of paint of various colors and all the newspapers we could steal from the neighbors(thanks Chris). When we got home, we pulled the car off to the side to avoid overspray on the other vehicles around, taped off the windows, measured our lines and started painting everything. At about 9am, Randy awoke and joined the fun. A beautiful morning with spray cans in our hands. We were done and cruizing by noon. About 6 months later, as I was tired of the attention, exhaust fumes, lack of heat and all the noise, I sold it for $300.00 to someone whom actually begged me to buy it. Her and her husband hand painted it with white latex house paint. You may still be able to find remants of the car in the MLK area of Des Moines. |
