The doctors managed to cure her before it was too late, thanks to Johnathan. But Lana was still hesitant about going to see Clark. After seeing him lying in that hospital bed, delirious with his illness, it really gave Lana a grip on what she felt for him. She didn't know for sure, but she felt really deeply for him. Lana was busy wiping the counter when Lex walked through the door of the Talon. She jumped in surprise then calmed. "Lex." she said, she was not expecting to see him here. "Hey Lana. Closing time was three hours ago. Why are you still here?" he asked. Lana checked her watch and realized that he was right. "Oh, I guess I just lost track of time." she said, then put away the cloth. "So, how's Clark doing?" she asked him. A half smile graced his face. "Why don't you ask him?" he said, putting his hands in the pockets of his long jacket. She shrugged. "I left some messages, but I don't want to bother him. He's probably spending time with his mom." she justified. "Besides I don't think he'd want to see me." "What makes you say that, Lana? I think Clark would appreciate being bothered right now." Lex asked, urging her to go see him. Lex knew that there was nothing he could say to Clark to make him feel any better about his mom nearly dying, but Lana would definitely have the ability to cheer him up. "I don't know. Clark and I haven't really been that close lately." she said, putting up the last of the chairs. "Lana. You know when Clark's mom was sick everyone ignored him. Mr. Kent was working to find a cure and Chloe was still avoiding him. I doubt that your presense will make things worse for Clark." he told her, flashing her a reassuring smile, he turned and left The Talon. Lana watched him go, her mind filled with thoughts of how Clark must have been put through the ringers when Mrs. Kent got so sick. It was against what her mind was telling her, but Lana agreed with her heart. She would go see Clark tonight. ~*~*~*~*~ She found him standing in his loft looking out at the vast dark blue shy. He had almost memorized the names of his favorite stars, but Clark's mind was not on the twinkling dots at that moment, she could tell. "Clark." she called softly to him as she climbed the last step. Clark turned to face her. "Hey." he said with a weak smile. He was emotionally drained from the crazy week, but he still felt that overwhelming attraction to her. Lana smiled back and walked to stand beside him at the window. She looked up at him and noticed tears in his eyes. "Do you want me to go?" she asked him. He shook his head no. "Do you want to talk about it?" she stepped closer and placed a comforting hand on his flannel clad arm. "I just hate feeling powerless. I can do so many things, but I couldn't save her. If my dad hadn't found that cure..." he trailed off. Her eyes were filled with sympathy. She knew what it was like to lose your parents. It had to hurt just as much as almost losing one. "I know what you mean." she told him. Clark turned to face her. "When that sickness affected me and I thought I was gonna die, all I could think about was that you'd never know." he confessed, looking into her eyes. Lana took a step closer. "Never know what?" she prodded, as he gonna tell her his secrets? Her heart beat faster with excitement an anticipation. He was silent for a few beats, as if he was searching for the right way to say what he had to say. "I was scared that I would die and I'd never get tell you how much... how much I love you." he professed, a tear tracking down his face. Lana was speechless. Clark loved her. He actually said it. He was crying too. She never saw him cry, ever. Suddenly it was all clear, she knew what she felt. "I love you too." she said, without knowing what she was doing she closed the distance and practically fell into his arms. It took Clark a while to register what was happening. He had told Lana how he felt, and she feels the same way. Tears were flowing freely down his cheeks as he held his love close. It was a brand new beginning, for both of them ~*~*~*~*~ The End BACK |
