After Clark apologized and Lana blushed and tittered for a while there was a comfortable silence. After she said she beat that guy up to repay him for saving her life on numerous occasions she found herself wishing she had the courage to really thank him. Properly, with candles and nakedness. "Well, Lex says I'm a natural at martial arts. I joined a karate class at the gym." she told him.

"That's great. Pretty soon you won't even need me." he said, there was a sadness to his voice because he really believe those words. After she learned how to take care of herself, there was no need for him to save her.

Lana smiled. "Unless of course another twister hits Smallville." she teased him. He chuckled but didn't say anything. "Clark, even if I learn how to defend myself I'll still need you." she told him, her feet carrying her closer. She was standing right in front of him. Her body was well aware of that and reacted to his closeness. her breathing quickened but not enough to be noticable.

"For what? Picking up the litter in front of the Talon?" he asked, it was said as a joke but he was serious. Chloe was right, he didn't like seeing Lana in danger but when she was he enjoyed being the knight in shining armour super speeding to the rescue.

He couldn't help herself. "Well, there is that trouble with the go-cups. People just don't know how to use trash cans." she teased him giggling at the look on his face. "You'd make a fine trash man."

"Oh gee thanks." he said sarcastically. "I'll remember that." he playfully threatened. Being teased by Lana about the community service trash picking lessened the humiliation of being picked on by the other townspeople. He would have thought it would be worse. But he knew somehow that Lana would never put him down.

"You should. But what am I talking about? Your gonna be writing for the Daily Planet sooner than I would." she said moving to sit beside him on the ledge that jutted out from the wall.

He looked over at her and she just smiled. He added another item to the 'Why I Love Lana' list. That smile that could shame the sun in it's warmth and brightness. He always found himself smiling back. "So, how does it feel to know you can kick butt?" he asked her as though a journalist would.

"Well, Mr. Kent. It feels... neat." she replied, feeling herself scooting closer to him. Their thighs were touching now and she hid her reaction the best she could.

Clark, being the master of holding back, using his method, he looked down at his hands to hide the blush. "Neat? Is that your final answer?" he asked looking up at her again. Lana nodded. "I'm glad you gave that guy the lickin he deserved. He'll know from now on the no one messes with Lana Lang." he said proudly. He had to remember to thank Lex, even though he was still afraid that she would no longer need him after she learned to defend herself.

"Damn straight. It's about time I took the initiative to learn the basics. I think I'll be able to work late at the Talon now without wondering if someone will attack me and I'll be helpless." she said looking down at her hands as she remembered thinking she was going to be assaulted by that big man. Another word flashed in her mind that had been there that night...rape. College guys were strong and if he desided he wanted her, there was no way she would of been able to stop him.

Clark put his arm around her and gave her a friendly hug. "I'd never let anything happen to you." he promised. "You believe me don't you?" he asked her leaning his head to look at her downcast eyes.

She looked sideways at him and let out a little laugh. "I can't really believe you wouldn't. You haven't failed to save me yet." she said, his arm around her shoulder had caused her to lean against him, but as his arm moved away she didn't make any move to move away from him. Her body gave into the exhausion from the last few days and she let her head rest on his shoulder. Her hand moved under his arm to take his hand. She didn't even realise what she was doing. All she wanted was to be close to him.

Clark nearly passed out when the girl on his dreams cuddled up to him and now had her head on his shoulder and her hand in his. He glanced when at her face, her eyes were closed and her face was calm. He knew what she needed, it was comfort. He pressed a kiss to her forehead and let her just rest against him.

After a few minutes of silence, with nothing but the sounds of nature to keep this moment from feeling like a dream, Lana opened her eyes and tears escaped. "I was so scared. If you hadn't shown up those college guys could have ripped me apart." she whispered, her voice a little shaky.

"I would never let that happen. If those pigs touched you I would have ripped them apart." he told her, knowing that wasn't the most comforting thing to say, but he was always told he had to be more honest. Just then to lifted her head and looked into his eyes. Clark used his free hand to wiped away her stray tears. "You don't need to cry anymore." he told her.

"Clark, I saw what you did to that guy. You threw him into the patrol car like he was as light as... a hay bail." she said. Seeing him do that was terrifying at the time but now she felt a little hot thinking about it. "How did you do that?" she asked him.

He cleared his throat, he hated lying to her. "I told you. He tried to hurt you and adrenaline can do amazing things." he reminded her. She nodded, knowing all about adrenaline, she felt it while kicking ass at the Talon and training with Lex. "What else would it be?"

"I think there's something you aren't telling me." she answered. She watched his face cloud with guilt for those infamous secrets he kept. "But..." she began, "I guess it's fair since I've been keeping something potentially important from you." she confessed. "Call it my own little secret."

"Potentially important?" he questioned, intriqued by this new revelation. He remember Ryan telling him that Lana had a secret that concerned him but he didn't want to know it then. If she was willing to tell him he was more than willing to listen.

"Yeah." she replied, she felt a little excited that Clark was taking an interest in her little vague confession of a secret. Now he knew how she felt. It was fun to make him squirm a little.

"Why potentially?" he asked her. His intriquement level shot up a couple dozen percent and he suddenly found himself wishing he had accepted Ryans offer to tell him Lana's secret.

"It depends on what someone else feels." she replied. "If my secret is returned then it's a very big deal. A very happy..big deal." she told him cryptically. "I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours." she offered, dangling the bait.

"How did I know that was coming?" he asked ritorically, all his excitement faded now. He hated lying to her. But there was more than one thing he kept from her. One, being the big secret the him being an alien secret, two, he was completely, head over heals, the hills are alive, can't think straight in love with her, and three, he was a virgin. The last one wasn't something he ever was gonna share with her.

"Hey, if you want to keep that secret of yours then I'll do the same." she said playfully, then noticing her hand was still in his... and it felt really nice to have his finger laced with her. She pretended she didn't notice and giggled at the look on his face as a cover up.

"Your evil. Lex took my Lana away and put this evil thing in her place." he joked lightening the mood to get his mind off the weight that was hanging in the air over the secrets that were held from each other. He didn't even notice he has called her 'his Lana'.

Lana noticed and she liked the sound of that. 'His Lana'...'Clark's Lana'...'Lana's Clark'. It was a nice thought but she felt that was all it would ever be...a thought. "I'm still me." she said with a shrug of her shoulders.

"That's why I love you." he said without thinking. He heard an rushed intake of breath from the girl sitting beside him and realized what he had just said. "As a friend." he hurriedly added looking over to see her big doe eyes looking at him in wonder. He knew she wasn't buying the coverup. "So, you know my secret, let's hear yours." he said in a pathetic attempt to take the attention off his previous words.

She searched for words but found none. At first she thought she heard wrong but knew she had heard his right when he tried to hide again. "I... I'm sorry I have to go." she pulled her hand from his and hopped of her perch to run away from him.

"Why?" he asked standing up as well watching her retreat. He almost sighed in relief when she stopped in her tracks and turned to face him. "Why do you have to leave?" he asked again.

Again no words came to her mouth. Not the words she wanted to come, just words like 'Oh god, Clark I love you too please rip my clothes off and take me now!' but that wouldn't go over very well in this case. In her dreams...maybe, but this was real life. "I knew you had a crush on me but I never thought that you..." she trailed off hearing those words over and over 'thats why I love you...love you...love you' over and over until they all blended together and she felt dizzy.

"I scared you didn't I? This was the last thing you needed to hear right now." he said mostly to himself, kicking himself for not thinking before he spoke. Where did those words come from? He was usually so good at keeping them from spilling. After a long day of sexual tension he would whisper 'I love you, Lana' before falling asleep just to get it out. But why now did those words slip from his lips and how without his noticing?

"No. It was just unexpected. But now my secret isn't really a bombshell anymore. I think you can guess what it is." she said, her arms crossing over her chest because she knew that her body was betraying her reaction to his words. She felt warm and ready to jump him and romp his bones. Rip his shirt off him to kiss his hard chest. She closed her eyes to try and get a handle on her self control. Would be guess her secret?

Clark's ears perked up at her words. If it was what he thought it was he wouldn't be able to stop himself from crossing the distance between them and kissing her. Lowering her to the wood floor to show her how much he loved her. He swallowed the lump in his throat and willed his heart to stop racing. "Is it what I think it is?" he asked...a step foreward.

"Maybe." she replied. Her mood dramatically changed from shock and slight fear to a kissing mood. "What do you think it is?" she asked...a step foreward.

"You..." he began...a step foreward.

"Yeah." she replied...a step foreward.

They closed the rest of the distance and their forheads touched. There was a moments hesitation before their lips connected.
