Soap Opera Weekly:
Outstanding Performer for the week of Feb. 17, 2003

Seething after seeing Sonny kissing Brenda on the docks, General Hospital's Carly did what she does best: She lashed out without thinking -- and the fallout from her character's impetuousness gave Tamara Braun the opportunity to shine.

Waking up hazy in a strange hotel room, Carly snapped back to reality when she realized she was naked in Ric's arms. Abruptly backing away from her strange bedfellow, Braun showed Carly's confusion and disgust with every fiber of her trembling torso and the look of panic painted on her face.

"What happened here?" asked Carly, as Ric began explaining the obvious. Carly's shame was painfully clear. Normally a commanding tigress, she dissolved into a frightened lamb. Braun held her head low and gently shook it in disbelief.

But the tigress re-emerged as she regained her composure and admonished Ric for taking advantage of her. Then, with an icy stare, she warned him that he was as good as dead if Sonny found out about their tryst.

Ready for her next confrontation, Carly set off to find Sonny, and promptly laced into him for kissing another woman. Braun's speech was fast and furious throughout Carly's tirade as she warned Sonny that she was prepared to walk away from their marriage. By the time Sonny finally declared that he only wanted to be with Carly, she was speechless. Braun's tough-girl act quickly dissolved into a sweeter, sensitive demeanor: She looked away, her voice cracked, her eyes filled with tears.

Later, at the penthouse, Sonny continued to woo Carly with words of love and gentle kisses, and the couple agreed not to punish each other for things they couldn't undo. While Carly gently nodded in accord, the far-off look in Braun's eyes told viewers that she was well aware that the latest act she couldn't undo might very well be her undoing.
