Yahoo! Club Founders' Club / Club Horror Story Contest
year 2000

bar
It may seem the wrong time of year for horror stories, but--despite the decoration--this contest wasn't about the Halloween sort of thing at all. The idea was to report on problems (horror stories) related to club activity and how the problem was solved, if solvable. Through the contest, we hoped to build a file of problems which the average club faces for Club Founders' Club FAQs, advice to the warry, so that we, hopefully, might all learn a trick or two.

The contest began on March 27, 2000 and concluded at, appropriately enough, midnight on May 14, 2000. Prizes were to include:

Grand Prize   Featuring (or re-featuring), reprint of horror story, winner's graphic logo for display.

Second Prize   Reprint of horror story, personal logo image for Yahoo! ID Profile use, winner's graphic logo for display.

Third Prize   Reprint of horror story, winner's graphic logo for display.

On May 27, 2000, the following results were announced:

My lovely horror story happened in my first yahoo club I founded about a year ago...

At this time I was founding this club, I was sharing a computer with my roomate whom made me beg, plead, and whine to him just to get online to check the club lol. I wasn't a very consistent founder because of this, and added a co-founder to help with the load. A club member who posted often and seemed to be a nice guy, came to chats, and got very involved. Slowly, He began to rear his ugly head and started in on how the founders are dictators (because of our rules) and other reasons I can't quite remember. I addressed him in a mature manner saying that was inappropriate, and if he has any other problems or suggestions we can take this to email. Funny thing is, my co-founder invited his brother to the club from an online dating service, and in turn he invited his brother wally.

After accusing us, wally wasn't satisfied. He continued to call us names, then said that His brother doesn't exist (His brother never participated in club) Anytime I could get online I tried to handle this in a mature manner, but wally never listened. The other members started in on him, and all of a sudden we have a huge flame war going on between the members backing up the founders and wally retaliating. During this time, He is also emailing our co-founder at every email account she has, calling her names as "fat ugly pig" and others I wouldn't dare post. I am equally frustrated because I cannot get online most of the time to do something about this. The co-founder and I are offline friends, but we were both so busy it was hard to communicate what we could do to solve this problem. We finally deleted him, but he kept coming back under another userid. He would start off again very nice, but as soon as we were on to him, we'd delete him. My co-founder deleted all of the offending posts and also the harrasing emails..so we had no proof. I didn't want to make the club unlisted because we had so few members. After a month or more of this going on, we had no choice to make it unlisted. A friend in the club found some info on Wally, and we helped him with some clues he gave us when he was orinally being nice. Our friend has a P.I. dude in the same town as wally, and found out where he worked...of all things at wally world (wall mart).

After all of this turmoil we thought we'd start off fresh with a new club, and take all that we learned that we did wrong, and use that knowledge in the future. I never found out if they did anything to wally, but rest assured he never came back to bother us again..happy ending eh???

Okay, to most of you this isnt' really a horror story, just one of those "things" that happen. But when your in a club that deals specifically with Children its a "HORROR!" I am a member of a club, http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/girlscoutleaders which is for Girl Scout Leaders. Now, I know that lots of leaders do computer badges with their girls and show them around these clubs. Well some nasty boy posted a porno picture - full nude - showing ALL!!!! He posted the picture in the club and no one could get access to it because it was posted as a personal album, only the founder could edit or delete it. Well we-the members, did EVERYTHING we could to contact the founder of the club and couldnt' find her. I even clicked on the profile only to find the profile page come up to say "user not found" Oh dear.....now what do we do??? Alot of the leaders were discusted and many letters were written to yahoo, eventually the picture was removed. Now we are not sure "who" took it off, was it Yahoo or the founder......I still haven't seen the founder on line and never get any letter from her. One of the postings that I put on the message board read "lost and found...er" hehee.

So, like I said....not much of a horror to you all, but to guiders....it sure is. I could just see the girls going home and telling mom and dad that they saw a fully naked man in the pictures in Guider Sue's club. "Mom....whats a hard on?"

I don't want to try and explain THAT one!!

about a year and a half ago, aimee joined my club, Can It Work?. when she first joined, she used to post a LOT. well a few months after she joined, she hadn't posted for a long time and we all started wondering where she was and what was up?

well we got this message in the club from someone saying they were her brother and she had died!!! i can't remember if it was a car accident or what...hmmm. i've spent the last hour going through the posts in my club, but my computer isn't quite up to par...it won't let me use the "back" button. so anyways, we got this message saying she had died and we were all so distraught! well, some of us were, anyway.

he was so sincere and one guy in our club even made a club in aimee's memory!!!

well, as if you can't see THIS coming...aimee is actually very much alive and doing quite well...she's since been made a co-founder and become one of my good friends. her brother was just mad at her for something!!! i couldn't believe that! he's younger than her, but he's still like 15 or so. how immature!

so i dont know if you'd really call this a "horror story", but it was pretty weird!

hehe...that's all for now! love...
