Chief Instructor Carmen Gallino has been a martial artist for more than 50 years.  He studied Judo under Jojui Yamada, K. Watanabe, Ken Yoshioka, Doug Hall and Phil Porter, competing in Judo tournaments in the U.S. and Europe.  Mr. Gallino reached the rank of Sixth Dan in Judo and went on to further his studies in various martial arts styles including Aikido, Jujitsu, Okinawa Te, Shuri Te and Tai Chi.  In 1990 Mr. Gallino met Master Ken Corona and began intensive private instruction in traditional Korean arts.  He was awarded his black belt in 1995 by Dr. Joo Bang Lee, his certification as a Reiki Master in August 2000, and his third dan in Hwarang Do from Master Ken Corona October, 2004.  Mr. Gallino will tailor a self defense program for special needs, limited abilities, or extra abilities.
"Please give yourself a new lease on life.  For all who feel they are unable come and try classes for two weeks for free.  Expand your mind.  Release your limitations.  Your inner doubts will disappear.  Your confidence will grow.  Your self esteem will return.  And most of all - your self respect will engage.  Martial arts is not just a way to get in shape or a way to defend yourself, it is a way of life.  We are people from all walks of life.  I only ask two things of you:  commit and have fun!"

Instructor Deborah Gallino has been studying martial arts since 1992 with her husband and teacher and is continuing her education in the healing arts and women's self defense.  She is a first dan black belt in Hwarang Do awarded by Master Ken Corona and received her brown belt in Judo from Mr. Gallino.
"Many women are afraid to take martial arts for fear of appearing unfeminine or they are afraid to look bad or get hurt.  These were certainly foremost in my mind before I started taking judo many years ago.  I certainly did not want to take a difficult Korean style because I was never a great athlete.

My husband Instructor Gallino addresses many of the roadblocks I have mentioned.  He will ask that you do only what you can do.  If you have physical limitations modifications will be made to accommodate you.
No one needs to feel they can't join in. Instructor Gallino will ask, however, that you do YOUR BEST, not someone else's best.  He has made me feel comfortable taking these classes.  I have a greater confidence in myself  and handling situations I could find myself in.  Generally, bad people will not tackle someone who looks and acts confident.  They look for the weak.

Instructor Gallino will make sure that you can defend yourself and not be a "victim."  If you are afraid that by taking martial arts because it is not feminine, I ask you what is feminine about being a victime of mugging, rape or murder?  I've always said they may end up taking my life, but they will know I was there.  Instructor Gallino takes the utmost care in assuring the safety of his students.  That's not to say you won't get hurt - there's always a chance with any physical activity that you may get hurt.  But the students in our class and the instructors are always diligent to work with each other safely and to care about the well-being of their partner.  You will find that Instructor Gallino does not run a militaristic style or class.  And you guys out there...if I can do it, you can too."
