Following in the footsteps of events across Ontario the weather yet again attacked yet another event of the 2004 kite season. Like all great kite fliers the weather didn't "dampen" spirits at all!. The enthusiasm to go flying shone above the dull grey clouds.
The gazebo's and banners of many clubs and individuals lit up the area with colour for the crowds of spectators! |

Dennis Ische's new crown takes to the air on it's first flight. A 10 footer in white and teal checker pattern it makes quite a sight on the field. One of the fliers commented that it was making them dizzy looking at it spin. |
Everyone was having a great time, then a fight broke out... That is "Fighter Kites" don't ya know! Ken, Terry and Carl from michigan and Ohio came up to try their hand at Trouncing the locals. Here Ken in the near circle and the kilt totin Terry go at it to show all how it's done. Rick Longhurst referees the match in the middle. | ![]() |

Eric Curtis popped down from St Thomas to join in the fun. He then proceeded to pop his beautiful Genki in the air to the delight of the crowds. |
Now there is a determined man. Larry Green of the EKG concentrating on his fighter in the middle of a tangle. Alas he ended up being one of the trounced locals at the end of the competition. Carl "Gumby" Anderson took top honours and received a trophy but not before graciously awarding his winning kite to Larrys wife Karen who was tickled pink! | ![]() |

Bill Peart and Kerry St. Dennis did individual routines and then got together for a dual routine. Here them playing "follow the leader" with Kerry flying his 4 stack of Revs and Bill flying his dual liner. It was huge fun which kept everyone entertained. |
With a memorial kite dedicated to the memory of Andrew Baxter, the mass ascension barely left a dry eye on the field. It was a very touching moment which was cherished by Andrew's family and everyone else there. | ![]() |

After the day of flying was winding down awards, an auction and prizes were handed out and bid on by all. Rick longhurst in this shot awards the youngest flier atrophy to Jessica Jonkman St Dennis. A proud Mom looks on. this wound up a cool but fun day of flying and friends. |
I have to give Rick and the Essex Kite fliers a huge thank you for their hospitality and hard work at putting on this event. Rick tells me that they will be sending the Make A Wish foundation a cheque for $4,113.80. He also tells me that it will add up to a wish for a child and the EKG will be recognized as the donor of it! Way to go to everyone there.
