Ray Scott Family Coalition Party Other - A significant number of my friends are adopted with disclosure vetoes see comments My party is unabashedly pro-life. From that over-riding concern I foresee that forms of mandatory disclosure may dissuade a pregnant mother from carrying a child to term for adoption. Instead, mandatory disclosure could, unfortunately, be the deciding factor for a woman choosing an abortion. Therefore, I support mandatory disclosure of all unidentifying information, particularly as pertains to personal health. I also support mandatory disclosure of non-identifying personal characteristics of the original birth parents. Please be assured, I do not value privacy per se over an adult adoptee's right to know, I value life itself over an adult adoptee's right to know.

I would support legislation which allowed birth parents of adult adoptees to make it known, through government agency, that they wished to make contact with an adult adoptee. It would then be the adult adoptee's decision as to what degree of contact, if any, would be desired.

There may be cases involving criminal acts, such as rape, where birth parent's access to any information would be justly limited. I would not place such a limitation on access to information for an adult adoptee. I believe there is a compassionate role for government to play in providing counselling services to those that require it (both to birth parents and adult adoptees).

Barbara Warner NDP       You may not be aware that NDP Leader Howard Hampton has replied on behalf of all NDP candidates. In brief, I can tell you that the NDP is in favour of making birth records and parental medical histories available to adoptees. NDP MPP Marilyn Churley, who is a reunited birth mother herself, has put the 'Adoption Disclosure Statute Law Amendment Act' before the legislature, but the other parties have so far prevented it from being passed.
