Memories of Down UnderI missed some of the events because of an emergency call so if I got the time wrong, sorry.Memories of Down UnderSeptember 15, 2000 0845 EST Mac's Apartment Mac sat curled up on the couch with Harm sitting at the far end. They had tried to fix their friendship and tonight getting together to watch the Olympics was a start. She was still getting over Mic's break up with her because she wouldn't marry him on his time scale. They had had a big fight in August with him leaving for home a few days later. She had to grin, between them; Jingo had stretched out with his head resting on her legs. She glanced over to Harm who was engrossed in the TV. Harm for his part was doing everything he could not to look at Mac, she had invited him over he guessed in pity as he had mentioned renting a TV to watch the opening ceremonies. He knew that it was an attempt to repair what they had nearly destroyed with the events that went on the last time they had anything to do with Australia. It was then that the firework display of the bridge was lit up and eternity came blazing across it. He saw Mac slightly tense, as he knew what she was thinking. Hell he hadn't been able to get the conversation out of his head since then. What an idiot I was that night, but how do I make it up to her? She stared at the TV as the firework display slowly burned out. It was all she could do to not let it show that that night last year still tore her apart. "It still hurts doesn't it?" "Yes it does. But I will get over it like I have everything else n my life." "Do you still feel the same way?" She looked over at him and saw that he was now staring intently at her. For the first time she saw that there was pain in his eyes too. Might as well tell the truth, it can't hurt us anymore than we have hurt each other these past few months. " Yes. Do you?" "No, not since that day in an airport when I saw the woman I cared for a lot kiss another man with his ring on her finger." From there he decided to go for broke, " I thought that she might have understood me that night and realized that I needed some time to let go before I embraced eternity with her. My words came out wrong as I tried to make her understand. Understand that I loved her." "Excuse me?" "I wanted her to know that I needed time to get what I felt under control before I made the next step with her, letting her know that I loved her and that it was eternity I wanted to spent with her, not how long she had to wait." Mac didn't know how to respond to his admission. She sat there dumb struck for a second and then she got mad, " how dare you make this out to be my fault that I didn't understand you. Geez Harm I am not a mind reader." "Whoa, Mac. I just told you that I was the one that screwed up and let us spiral down this road to where we are today. I just wish we could go back and I could tell you that I love you, I want to make a life with you, that I want to spent eternity loving you." Harm gently got Jingo up and out of the way and scooted across the couch and took Mac's hands in his. " I am so sorry Mac." She sat up and hit mute, she turned away from him and went over in her head what he had just said. He loved her, had for some time and that he wanted her forever. The words she had waited so long for, the words the she had wanted to hear the night her heart was torn in two. She then got up and walked over to the window and looked out into the night. He had finally laid out what she wanted to hear and now it was her decision, do I trust him and let go myself or do I keep the shield I have placed around my heart? Harm watched her as she stood still, looking for answers in the blackness outside. Great, you have done it again Rabb. You have hurt the one person you promised yourself you would never hurt again. "Mac, I'm sorry. I'll just leave now and I hope that you can someday forgive me for being a world class idiot." "Jerk." "What?" "Make that world class jerk. But I figure if I am to put up with you for the rest of my life, I might as well get used to that." Harm stood there dumbfounded now, he didn't know what to make of her comment. Did she just forgive him? " Mac?" "Yes?" "Does this mean that we are on the same page?" "Well, it means that you have a chance to make it being an idiot. I expect to be courted right and you have to understand one thing." "What is that?" "I want you to be honest and straight forward and if you think that I miss interpret what you are trying to tell me, you better not wait a year to explain." Harm smiled at her and she smiled back, they met each other in the middle of the room as they came together. Harm brought her close and lowered his face to hers as their lips met in an explosion that was matching the now forgotten fireworks that were being shown on the muted TV. |
