The table of two
The couple on the opposite side of the four women remained quiet as they continued to listen in on the conversation.

"So what do you think happened Kate? Did Harm get cold feet and run when she asked him how he felt?"
Kate looked over at Jordan, "I don't really know. My source would only say that Harm and Mac took a ride out on a ferry, they left friends and come the next day were at odds."
"So Harm froze up then." Jordan answered her own question.
"I think that Harm wasn't ready and she shocked him. I mean they never have gotten past being just friends and she decided to up the anti." Bobbie added.
"It sounds like that and that Harm was still out of sorts in his life."
"Well if Harm was still out of sorts he would more than likely asked for more time. Given some excuse and fumbled his words. He did that with me once as we tried to discuss where we were going. Our final conversation a few days after the Tiger cruise was that I wasn't ready to let go of the past for the future he wanted right then."
"I heard him say that once about his flying before he got his eyes fixed. He just wasn't ready to let go of it. I know he felt jilted because he didn't get a choice in the matter and when push comes to shove, Harm has to set the pace." Jordan added.
"You know that when I first met him and worked with him for a few months that no one even knew he was a pilot. Not a clue." Kate threw in.
"You had no idea, but he wears his wings on his uniform like a beacon for all to see and know that he is a naval aviator." Bobbie stressed.
"He was still ashamed and upset over the ramp strike. It wasn't until his dead RIO's brother forgave him and he saved the CAG by landing five years of being out of the loop that he wore his wings again. It was the brother that pinned them back on. You could see the tears in his eyes, they never fell but it was like one of the many weights he carried around gone. I know he also spoke with the CAG before we left, I don't know what he told Harm either but it helped in healing some of the wounds."
"I don't know how I would handle Harm if ever became a case of mine. He is such a mess inside; the only person I know that has gotten through to him time after time is Mac. Russia, his father, the little girl that was killed, Palmer and who knows what else. He opens up to her like no one else. I tried and believe me when I say that I tried. Not once and when he did I just seemed to make matters worse but then there was Mac."
The others watched, as Jordan slowly was getting drunk over the conversation.
"I think it comes down to fear?"
"What do you mean Anne?"
"Look at all of us and even Renee. We are all women who need a man like Harm to protect us and take care of us. Not say that we can't do it but Harm likes to be the hero and protect the ones he cars for. That's what he did when he was around me, always making sure I was okay and got whatever I needed. Jordan is always in the back at some hospital and never in danger. You Bobbie are protected by your job title and besides an angry constituent that you will never meet or some unhappy congressman, you are never in a line of fire. Kate is the only one at this table that has been in the field with Harm and with just what I have heard, Harm left her behind or on the sidelines. And if you tell me that Renee will do anything that might break a nail I will laugh in your face."
"I see where you are going with that, Mac is a gung ho marine and has seen battle with Harm, he has seen her hurt because of his actions. And whenever that happens all he sees is Diane lying there on that gurney in a body bag." Kate said as she recalled what Meg had told her about the case when they met up in Hawaii a few years back.
"It makes you want to go up to Renee now and tell her that she might get used to the chance at the rainbow because she will never get the pot of gold." Anne said. "Because Harm is afraid of losing Mac and he will if he doesn't get off his six.
They all paused lost in thought over Harm till Jordan finally spoke back up. "I will say one thing about that man though, he sure knows how to treat a woman. Whenever he takes them out or just entertains them in bed. Whew."
They all laughed at that. "Yes he does and can he cook, did you ever see those lobster mittens."
"Oh come on Bobbie they were the only things he used to cook with. And yes that man can cook. I guess being raised by his mother and grandmother paid off." Jordan laughed.
"So do you think that he and Mac have slept together?" Kate asked, "I personally don't think so. Harm is too much the gentleman. If he ever went that far with her it would be for life. He treats her different that the rest of the women in his life."
Anne, "I would have to say no also, Harm did treat her different the few times we all met. But then I always thought that it was because she looked like Diane."
"I can't say yes or no with the little information I know, but if they had I would have to agree with Kate. They way they feel for each other would be the lifetime kind of love. What do you say Jordan?"
"I say no, as much as I would like to say yes, it is no. Harm is that noble kind that would only sleep with the one he really loves if they were going to get married. The rest of us are just fillers. I also base that again on the conversation I had with Carolyn Imes and Mac at that gathering we all were at and Carolyn asked how Harm was and Mac seemed eager to know too. We were both surprised when Mac let us know she didn't know."
"I bet that was funny" Kate laughed.
"It was and I gave them a few hints of how Harm performed."
The table of two
Her
She didn't raise her eyes as she felt his gaze upon her. She was silently burning inside at being talked about so openly and how Harm was being discussed. Then again the views into Harm's head and how he might really feel about her was enlightening.
Did what Anne say was true, was he still pinning over Diane and just need time to finish letting her go? Did I misinterpret what he said on the ferry and not give him the time he needed? Was he that worried over her getting hurt and not wanting to feel that kind of pain again? Did he really love her and was he really afraid to let her know?
And was he really that good in bed?
Him
He just continued to stare as he contemplated the words spoken by the four women on the other side. What did Sarah and Harm discuss in Sydney that had her running into his arms? Was he the pick up man from a broken heart? Did Harm ask for time to let go and Sarah not want to wait and since he was ready did she jump at his offer for a relationship?
Hell that couldn't be it, she did say yes to you and not Harm. But she held you at bay for nearly a year and whom does she go off and chase every time he gets into trouble? Harmon Rabb. Whose pictures were in her apartment until you got her to move the ring over and she placed them in a special album? Harmon Rabb. Who does she rely on in times of need? Harmon Rabb. And who knows all of her secrets that she won't tell you about when you ask? Harmon Rabb.
He mulled and started to sulk as he looked away from her to his food that was now getting very cold. He went over how he had thrown in Harm's face about he and Sarah setting a date today at lunch and Harm's face never showed that it affected him. Had Harm given up? Harm would do what ever Sarah wanted and would do anything in his power to make her happy, so if marrying me would make her happy then Harm would step aside and let her go. Doing it for her.
And what did he do to still get women to talk like that about him in bed?
Her
Thank God he finally quit staring at me. This lunch was supposed to be about something, I gathered that when I walked in and found him and Harm sizing up each other again. But wait, Harm was nice to Mic and has been the past week or so, has Harm given up hope. That would explain why he was finally being nice to Mic.
But he has been acting differently since Kate came into the picture, what did she say to him?
She pushed her plate away as all thoughts of food left her and she looked at her ring. Was this a ring taken from rejection and was it accepted because of love? Harm would give up for me if it made me happy. He would do anything for me if it made me happy even let me go.
She felt pity for the man next to her as she contemplated what he was thinking about what they had over heard.
Table of four
The laughing had settled down, "Kate I have been meaning to ask you why you didn't stay at JAG?"
Kate turned to Bobbie, "Well first off I had a fight with Mac, I cornered her on her relationship with Harm and didn't get anywhere. She just told me it was none of my concern. And then I wasn't about to add to Harm's female problems. The evening I left was the night that the JAG staff threw a little impromptu gathering for Mac and Mic. As I was leaving Harm in his own way cornered me and asked me that same thing. I told him three women in his life were too many and he asked me three. I said Renee, Mac and me. The look on his face was priceless."
"You aren't the first to let him know he is in love with Mac."
"I think every woman sometime or the other lets him know that. He just denies it and goes on his way." Jordan spat as she poured herself another glass.
"But he never said he wasn't to me, never denied it. The pain in his eyes let me know that it was true but he wasn't about to act on it. I think that if I had stayed that I would have been his foil to break up with Renee." Kate exchanged looks with Bobbie as she took the empty bottle away from Jordan. Feeling sorry for Jordan as she was obviously not over Harm.
"Does Harm know you are working for me Anne?"
"Nope and I was hoping to keep it that way, but now." She said shrugging her shoulders. "I guess Harm seeing Josh won't hurt, I just won't let them out alone. Josh still worships he dad and Harm. Still wants to be a naval aviator like them, I guess he could have worse hero's."
"Harm loves children, the way he goes full bore to defend them and make sure they are taken care of. I remember of how we talked about them one night before he took off for flying. Told me that he didn't want another Harmon Rabb because one in this world was enough. But a little girl," Jordan stopped, "now that I think about it, the child he described looked a lot like Mac. A brown eyed, brown hair little girl. Told me that his mothers side of the family had both but now that I think about it he was describing Mac."
The all were quiet after that and not much more was said as the waiter brought the check over.
Table of two
That Harm didn't need three women in his life, and then he turned to look at me after he closed the door. That look spoke volumes and I passed it off as he was glad to see her go. Is that what really shook Harm up that night?
He dreams of children she thought as their five year deal came across her mind? My looks his brains he said. It wasn't a fly by at the moment deal. He had thought about it before.
Mac dared a look at Mic and saw the sorrow and fear etched into his face.
The table of four
Kate agreed to take Jordan home and that they would meet again the next day to finish discussing women on subs. Bobbie told Anne to follow Kate and then give her a ride to her car at the hill and said she would handle the check.
Bobbie watched as the three women left and she pondered what set of fates would bring Harm and Mac out of the fog they were both in. It was then that she caught the retreating form of Sarah Mackenzie leaving the row of booths behind them.
Bobbie got up to follow when she bumped into Mic. One look at him and she knew that they had overheard everything that had been said.
"Mic."
He held up his hand, "Please don't apologize, it would only rub salt into the wound. You ladies were speaking the truth that Renee and I needed to hear. Renee should have stayed and listened to the rest of the conversation. I want you to know that I plan on filling her in."
"What about Mac?"
"What about her?"
"We hit a cord didn't we?"
"I wasn't really sure until you started in on children and that is when she looked at me and I knew that you were telling the truth. That and the tears that started to fall as she left."
"Please be kind with her and Renee Mic. You haven't known Harm and Mac like the rest of us have. What all they have been through and done for each other, whether or not they ever get it together, they will always protect each other. If you love Mac enough and if she does love you, can you live with Harm forever in your life?"
"You know Bobbie, I just don't know. Could you have lived with Sarah always in your life?"
"I can answer that Mic, I couldn't. I have been the odd one out twice, with my college flame and then Harm. I want their full attention on me. I might be selfish in that but that is the way I want it."
"Thank you for you candor. Good day."
Bobbie followed him out and wondering just what it would be like to be a fly on the wall at Harm's or Mac's, hell even JAG's the few days.
