Power supplys |
The power supply in a tesla coil circuit has to complie with many criteria The main being the voltage and current rating a good level is anything above 6kv and from 25mA upwards Very high voltage levels cause problems with insulation so a good voltage is between 8 and 15kv i have pictured my power supplys below and will soon add a complete section on power supply theory |
This is my twin mot supply its two 1800w industrial mots with voltage doubler using capacitive ballast to 2kva This setup i have built is not very tidy but i will rebuild soon when i have my new transformer which will be 10kv 300ma but will run at 10kv 600ma |
This is an unpotted general neon sign transformer its rating is 8kv 60ma i didnt need to unpot it but wanted to for the sake of it and also these are potted in a soft grease so the job was easy to the right are the two high voltage windings and to the left is the primary winding |
This is my tunewell nst its 5kv 120ma i had conciderable success with this unit which is 600va and i managed 2.5' with this setup on my 4"x21" coil output pics are on the front page |
Here is my 16Kva 11kv pole pig i like the red colour as it represents the danger of this beast on the left is a warning light beacon when the pig is powered the light goes on. ontop is my adjustable ballast. |
