Southerndown, just along the coast from Ogmore by Sea, is one of my favourite beaches although it can get quite busy during the summer weekends.
There is limited parking  on the seafront, but if it becomes busy, there is an overflow car park. There is a charge for parking payable to an attendant.
There are nice rock pools for the children, better than those of Ogmore, so don't forget to take their fishing nets! There is a small shop and toilets, and a visitor centre which tells a little of the history of the area and Dunraven castle. Also look out for the old thatched cottage opposite the visitor centre.
When you have had enough of the beach, its worth taking a walk over the headland until you reach the ruins of Dunraven castle.
After a day by the beach, and having developed a thirst there is a nice
pub called the "Three GoldenCups". You can't miss it as it is on your right as you leave Southerndown.
To the side of the pub is a childrens play area.
