Japanese Word / Fanfiction Term

Meaning
 aishiteiru Informal form of "I love you".
 anata Standard form of "you".
 anime Animation
 anou "Well...", "Uhmm..", "Err...". This is either used when pausing, trying to get someone's attention or hesitating.
 arigatou Informal form of "Thank you"
 AU A fanfiction term which stands for Alternate Universe.
 baka Fool, idiot. Ex. Akane: Ranma no baka!!! [Stupid Ranma!!]
 bishoujo Beautiful girl
 bishounen Beautiful / handsome youth
 boku Informal form of "I" used by males only.
 -chan Informal form of address suffixed at the end of one's name. -chan is only used among close friends or family members. Ex. Sakura-chan
 chibi Runt, short, dwarf. In anime, it is equivalent to super-deformed (SD)
 demo "But", "However"
 doujinshi Fan-drawn manga
 doushite? Informal of "Why?"
 gomen Informal form of "I'm sorry"
 hai "Yes"
 hentai Meaning varies depending in the use and pronunciation. It could be "transformation", "formation" or "abnormality". Hentai, in relation with anime, are those which are erotic in nature. Literally, it means "pervert".
 iie "No"
 itadakimasu A Japanese phrase said before eating. Could be translated as "thanks for the food", but no real equivalent in English.
 kawaii Cute
 konbanwa "Good evening"
 konnichiwa "Good afternoon"
 kuso "Shit!". Other meaning is feces or excrements
 manga Comic book
 minna Everyone, everybody, all. Ex. Ohayou minna [Good morning eveyone]
 nani / nan What. 'nan' is used generally before t-, d-, n-.
 oi Use to call someone's attention. Equivalent to "Hey" in English.
 ohayou Informal form of "good morning" which is used until 10 a.m.
 oishii "delicious"
 okaasan Standard form of "mother". 'okaachan' is the informal form, while 'okaasama' is the polite form.
 okaeri "Welcome home"
 otousan Standard form of "father". 'otouchan' is the informal form, while 'otousama' is the polite form.
 PWP Fanfiction term which either stands for Plot? What Plot? or Porn Without Plot.
 sakura Cherry Blossom, Cherry tree
 -sama Polite form of address suffixed at the end of one's name or surname. This is equivalent to Mr., Mrs., Miss, Lady or Lord in English.
 -san Standard form of address suffixed at the end of one's name or surname. This is equivalent to Mr., Mrs., or Miss in English.
 sayounara "Farewell"
 seiyuu Voice actor
 senpai Often called to one's senior and pronounced as "sempai"
 sensei Teacher, master, doctor
 shimatta "Damn it!", "Shit!"
 shoujo-ai Literally means "girl love".
 shounen-ai Literally means "boy love".
 sugoi awesome, amazing
 sweatdrop A large bead of sweat that appears on the heads of characters in anime, shown as a sign of exasperation or incredulity; common in comedy anime, very rare in dramatic or dark anime.
 tadaima "I'm back"
 watashi Standard form of "I" used by both men and women.
 yaoi Stands for "yama nashi, ochi nashi, imi nashi" which means "no climax, no point, no meaning." Yaoi involves a male-to-male relationship often synonymous to shounen-ai , but more erotic in nature.
 yuri Involves a female-to-female relationship often synonymous to shoujo-ai, but more erotic in nature.
