About AU CGS
AU CGS was founded by Holly, Leanne, and Carmen in the fall of 1998, but our story begins a year before that. All three of them were long time Girl Scouts (two Gold Awards out of three) who missed being active in that first long year of college. Leanne and Holly had both contacted GSCNC (unbeknownst to the other), and through some strange twist of fate they and Carmen were on the same floor of the same dorm (GO LETTS 3N!). The three of them put their heads together, and decided that they wanted to start a CGS group at AU. In the fall of 1998 they had a meeting with the Field Director, and AU CGS was born.

The group now has somewhere between 10 and 15 members, about 8-10 of whom are active, and our staff advisor is Anne Steen. We've done an awful lot for a small group in its first few years. Several of us have long-term commitments to individual troops, and we're trying to place more folks for next year. October 2000 saw our first event on campus, "What the Tour Guide Forgot: Everything They Didn't Tell You About Going to College." Eleven Senior Girl Scouts and three Campus Girl Scouts from other schools joined us for a fun day of college life, the real way. We've hosted a mess of cookie booth sales on campus, to the great delight of several fraternities and to the great benefit of several troops' bank accounts. Several of our members are certified lifeguards, and they have helped at various troop events. We've also assisted at random events for Service Unit 42-4, like Thinking Day and Bridging activities, and provided program help to individual troops.
