Message from Olaitan on Reunion--04/15/99

"Spero Lucem" -- I hope, seek, search for light. TO FIND THIS LIGHT,

HOWEVER, YOU HAVE TO MAKE YOURSELF HEARD -- LETS ASSERT OURSELVES LETS SHARE OUR IDEAS AND POOL OUR RESOURCES.

Dear King's College Old Boys (KCOBs) and others similarly interested,

The time has come for us to make concrete arrangements for

a reunion in New York City this summer -- KCOB NYC 99. For the members

of the KC 1988 set having premature memory loss problems, I attended King's College

until 1986. I left after form 4 (SS1) to school in the U.S. -- I am currently in law school in NYC. I will be at the law firm of Cravath, Swaine, & Moore this summer -- as a Summer Associate.

Emmanuel Agu, Richard Namme, Roy Thomas and myself, to name a few,

have taken it upon ourselves to make KCOB NYC 99 happen. We have set

out to make it a memorable event. Your help, input, and cooperation,

however, is essential and integral to the endeavor.

First things first. We need to get an idea of the level of interest

in the event. Only then can we begin to determine its scale and cost

-- Boys think BIG FUN TIME. Furthermore, early (its already pretty much March) planning ensures better group rates/discounts on venues, hotels, etc.

So far the format is not set and we are open to suggestions and

ideas. We are hoping to have both a "fun" and "serious" component to the event. We also want to open it up to non-KCOBs -- now now, we don't want to be thought of as elitists. The overaching goals of the event surpasses merely reuniting KCOBs. It will, hopefully, serve as a platform from which all Nigerians like ourselves -- ambitious visionaries -- come together to share information, ideas and experiences. The time has come for the community of educated Nigerians like ourselves to more forcefully assert ourselves -- in business, economic and politics of both the U.S. and Nigeria. The agend for the event has not been fully set -- we are very open to suggestions and ideas.

If this sounds like something in which you might be interested Email me at either:

(1) o_senbanjo@stblaw.com; or obsenbanjo@yahoo.com.

(2) rnamme@niu.edu

Let me know if you are interested in attending and also feel free to provide suggestions,

ideas or thoughts on the format, activities etc.

Furthermore, if you know someone who would be interested in attending

and notice that their email address is not listed, please forward this

message to them. Also, if you know people who might be interested but

do not have an email address, have them contact me by via phone; (W) (212) 455 3944 or by "Snail Mail" at 144 West 120th Street, New York, NY 10027.

Sincerely,

Olaitan B. Senbanjo

Hello folks,

For those of you who still keep fit, CASS's email gave me an idea for

one of the things we could do during the reunion weekend. We could play

football -- actually soccer here -- or partake in some type of rec/sports (other than girl chasing-- which by the way should be approached like a profession (and not a sport). To that end I want you folks to direct your you browsers to: http://www.chelseapiers.com

Let me know what people think.

In the alternative, we could just try to find some open field and get a pick up game going.

Reunion Update- from Olaitan (03/23/99)

What's up everyone,

Richard, I received your email and I called Okoro and left a message on

his voicemail. I plan to speak with him and I will apprise you of our

conversation.

RESTAURANTS: What do you think folks will be up for in terms of eats. I

know of a pretty damn good African Restaurant in my neck of New York City

-- Harlem (but I wonder if all you boys are brave enough to visit).

Okay I am just joking -- it's perfectly fine. I like this restaurant

because it will allow us to be loud and boisterous and feel perfectly

at home -- the sound pounded yam, fufu, eba, rice, dodo, you name it

and they have it. Price wise, I think it is also good value for money.

So let me know people's inclination regarding the food arrangements --

General American, (2)West African type or (3) food from other parts

of the world except for America and Europe e.g. Indian, Chinese, Thai

etc

ACCOMODATION: I called the Marriott Hotel in "Downtown" Brooklyn --

literally over the Brooklyn bridge (pedestrian bridge) from Manhattan

(but you avoid paying inflated Manhattan $$$). If I act now and put down

reservation on my credit card, I can get the following rate, Please

tell me what you think.

MARRIOT HOTEL: $170 ([1] It includes tax; [2] It is NOT PER NIGHT but

for WHOLE WEEKEND PER PERSON for Fri, Sat, Sun night -- you'll leave on

Monday morning -- remember that Monday is a public holiday for 4th of

July. (2) It will be 4 people to a room (that's why we are able to get

the much reduced per person total cost of $170 for the 3 nights). (3)

Guys believe you me the price is well worth it. NB: The rate is only

good for a 3night block -- it is priced in such a way that its more

expensive to try for two nights because this discount is not available.

ACTUAL FIGURES FOR MARIOTT

1. Special 3 night (Discount Rate) = $170 per Night

2. Up to maximum of 4 people in 1 room

3. 13.25% New York City Tax

4. Plus $2 per room/Per night surcharge

5. TOTAL Cost for 3 Night Stay for 1 Person sharing with 3 Other People

= $170

RICHARD RE: DOUBLE TREE HOTEL

Richard, I looked into the Double Tree hotel here in NYC (in Manhattan).

It is in Manhattan which is a plus, but I really wonder about the

quality of the facility and the fact that 6 (grown men in one room) but

hey the choice is for you guys to make. Here are the Double Tree

numbers.

ACTUAL FIGURES FOR DOUBLE

1. Special Discount (I guess you can stay 2nights as opposed to the

compulsory 3 nights required at the Marriott)

2. Up to a maximum of 6 people in one room ($20 per head for persons

#3-6)

3. 13.25% New York City Tax

4. $4 per room/ per night surcharge

5. TOTAL COST for a 3night stay for 1 person in a room with 5 others =

$180

6. TOTAL COST for 2night stay for 1 person in a room with 5 others =

$120

ENTERTAINMENT -- come on guys, you are in New York City, Do I need to

say anymore. Remember, New York is the city that never sleeps.

Floreat Dear Ob's,

Your ideas are being sought for a reuniuon for members in our set planned over the July 2nd weekend break this year. This will mark just over 10 years since most of us "graduated" (yankee grammar) from KC and moved on. For some of us, even longer.

Suggestions have so far been tabled to have the reunion in Newyork City this year, starting Friday the 9th July till Sunday July 11th.

However, we need to confirm that our hosts in NY City will be willing to make neccessary arrangements for hotel rooms/suites, and activities for the weekend.

We will at this stage appreciate your kind suggestions to enable us have a memorable reunion. Please email your comments to me at rnamme@hotmail.com so I could share this information with everyone on our homepage.

Wishing you as always every success in 1999.

Yours Sincerely

Floreat,

This page was set up in July, 1998 to promote efforts to reunite the Kings college Old boys of the set of 1988, who after only ten years are now scattered all over the world, in successfully pursuit of various career goals.

Our dynamic and young set decided that our efforts to fraternize and share some of our common goals together as in the past would be facilitated through a central home on the net, which we intend to continue to build on from time to time.

Yours Truly,

I am delighted that we all see the value of setting up a page for our set. Afterall, we were the 1st guinea pigs for all the new ideas that the 6-3-3-4 educational project had sought to achieve.

In the last few days, I have received numerous encouraging emails from our KCOB set all over the World.

At this stage, it is, perhaps, practical to generate ideas that will serve our efforts to fraternise and network with each from now on.

To this regard, I encourage everyone to use the set up directory page "set of 88"), to contact other friends in our set.

I am also suggesting that we continue to build our database of members of our set.

We already have sections set up to include:

What our objectives or our mission should be;

Current issues( which I am hoping we can categorize-business, politics,other topics of interests);

Announcements( who is getting Married,Job openings, business opportunities e.t.c) and,

Useful Links to your favorite sites or resource.

Also feel free to send in comments to be included on the page. I am hoping that we would eventually run our own list server to notify everyone on events of interest as they arise.

If you have email addresses of others, please forward to them, news about our page.

Best Wishes

Richard I. Namme(TY)

Well,

We know everyone's busy these days and we've kinda not kept in touch with each other. So we initiated an idea to maintain a homepage for our set where we can have a central bulletin board where we can all communicate and keep in touch with what every one's up to and most importantly NETWORK.

I am hoping that everyone will contribute an article towards building our page.

As part of the maintenance team, I will like to assist with updating the page with whatever information you send via email or preferably as an attached word file. If you have details of others in our set, or their email addresses, kindly send us email or forward details of our page to them. Remember that person should be in our set(K.C 82-88). We haven't put up the best looking page in the World yet, but we can do much better with your input.

please send a reply to us with the following details.
