Yeah, but Jay's picture is funny too

Travelers along the highways of rural Japan will sometimes see signs announcing that a nearby river or pond is home to fireflies. Fireflies need fairly clean water in order to live and breed. Fireflies are rare in urban Japan. Companies that catch or breed fireflies exist. For a fee they will ship fireflies to a person's house or city partk where they can be released for various events. The cost is about 30 yen per firefly and the minimum order is usually around 90 fireflies.

A hotel in Tokyo recently spent over two million dollars placing translucent wands in the garden. At night, the wands move and guests can enjoy watching the wands move through the night air in a manner highly similar to fireflies. Guests have commented on how realistically the translucent wands resemble actual fireflies. The hotel considers the expense worthwhile and compared to constantly buying fresh, live fireflies, a bargain
