Something to Think About

An Experience in Mexico

One day he went past and saw that the gates were open. There were no guards or dogs. He took this as a sign from Jehovah that this was his opportunity to work it. He proceeded cautiously down the driveway which was over one mile long. He prayed to Jehovah all the way down the drive for courage. When he came to the house there were two large doors with a big sign next to the doors with a doctor's name printed on it. He felt he would probably have a maid or other servant answer the door. He prayed again and went ahead and knocked. A white haired man with glasses answered the door and asked what he wanted. The brother then asked for Dr. So and so. The man said he was Dr. So and so and asked him what he wanted. He pulled out the Watchtower and Awake and started to nervously stammer through his presentation. The doctor interrupted and said to look at that sign. I am a doctor and have spent yrs. in college and you have the audacity to say that you are going to try to teach me something? Stop wasting my time.

The brother asked to tell him one last thing for which he received permission. He said there are a lot of donkeys who go up and down the road in front of your hacienda. What if one day there was a donkey that came down your drive with two large bags on its back and you noticed a hole in one bag with gold coins coming out of it. In the other bag you noticed a hole with silver coins coming out of it. What would you do? He said that he would keep the bags of coins and kick the donkey back out onto the road just like anyone else. The brother then said that he was the donkey and the Watchtower and Awake were the gold and silver. Please take them and I will be on my way. The doctor felt obligated after what he had said so he took the magazines and the brother left.

It had been several years since that had happened. The brother relating the experience was a district overseer who had been that doctor. He said he had never seen that brother again and asked for anyone who knew about this to let him know. He said, "I am the donkey and that brother is the gold and silver!"

The speaker said that he had heard that these two brothers had eventually met. He is going to verify it when he visits Mexico again.

Another Experience

It was a hot and dusty August Sunday afternoon in the rural territory. Everyone was ready to quit for the day, but if they would take one more house they would be finished with that area and head for home...

But the lady at the door asked the sister in because it was too hot to stand at the door and talk. (She hadn't noticed there were others in the car) The young woman had two small children and she was concerned about how she would be able to teach them about Jesus. Just that morning she had tried to get her husband up to go to church because they hadn't gone for over a year. He said he didn't care if he ever went back again, so there she was. She had been trying to work out some kind of agenda to teach her 4 year old daughter and 5 year old son what she could when someone came to the door.

It was one of Jehovah's Witnesses. She had always had a respect for the knowledge they had of the bible and so told her of the concern she had to teach her children. The sister pulled out a Great Teacher book from her bag and the woman was delighted! YES, this was just what she had in mind..........

That was August 1975. I was the young woman at the door. I've been baptized for 20 years now, and my husband did finally get himself out of bed on Sunday mornings and he is also baptized. Our son pioneered for several years and is a ministerial servant and our daughter is still pioneering.

I thank Jehovah every day for His guidance and direction.

Another Experience from Mexico

A woman in Mexico learned the truth and started attending the meetings. She lived in an area that was not safe and since her husband was opposed, she had to walk some distance to the meetings. Because of the dangers, her little dog walked with her to the meetings. Upon arriving at the Kingdom Hall, the little dog refused to stay outside. He would run inside and sit on the seat next to the sister.

The brothers would repeatedly put the little dog outside only to have it run in everytime the door was opened. Finally, they gave up and let the dog stay in the seat next to the sister. Then, after meeting they would both walk home.

After a time, the sister fell ill and died.

After her death, her husband noticed the dog would come up missing on certain nights. He would be gone for several hours and then show up. This went on for sometime until the man became curious as to where the dog was going.

One evening he followed the dog and watched it go inside the Kingdom Hall. He looked inside and saw the dog sitting there. The dog had continued attending meetings after our sister died.

The man decided if it was that important to the dog, he should look into it. He is now our brother and attending meetings....with the little dog.

If a little dog can see the importance of regular meeting attendance, can we?

A MOTHER'S THOUGHTS

Picture yourself in the New Order right now. A sister is off to one side. She stops for a few moments and reflects:

It's two weeks after Armageddon. All contacts with the faithful brothers worldwide have been made, and it's now a time for rejoicing. As I gaze upon this field before me, which just two weeks ago was the site of an awesome display of Jehovah's power, I think back--back to the time when you were born and how we prayed that you would, one day, honor Jehovah. That you would serve the brothers, go to Bethel, Gilead School--something special. So we worked and prayed continually. How we rejoiced when you began to read and write and comment at the Hall! And oh, how we swelled with joy and pride when you were only nine years old and gave your first talk!

But then you went to high school and we entered our darkest period ever. Discipline, punishment didn't seem to work anymore. We checked the publications and chalked it up to your trying to establish your independence. But then it turned into outright rebellion. I would say, "Why don't you study?"--and you would say, "I want to be with my buddy!" I would say, "How about the preaching work?"--and you would say, "I'll feel like a jerk because we'll see some of the kids from school when I'm out in the work." I would pray, would cry, and I'd ask Jehovah why. The more I insisted, the more you resisted. Then you began to lie, cheat, and deceive, denying all the training that you had received.

You absorbed the world's views, its music, its recreation, its language and standards, its bad association. You totally succumbed to its overwhelming coercion. In fact, you became a completely different person. Then you decided that you had grown up and were ready to spend some time on your own. I asked, "How will you make it and who will provide?" You said you had some friends on your side. So you left. This was extremely painful and we saw that Satan had won. But we hoped and we hoped that you'd be like the prodigal son. But alas, it was not to be, for now you are gone, never to return.

Do you remember the other young ones whom you used to call square? They're here now, enjoying the blessings of Jehovah. And the other ones you used to enjoy being around--you know, the "cool" ones--they're nowhere to be found.

Well, it's getting late and I'm afraid I must go. We must plant our seed so our garden will grow. But just one more thing you said that I remember; you said it a year ago last September. You said, "I can take care of myself, come snow, sleet, or rain--and besides, if I die, I'll feel no pain." And you know, son, it's funny, but no matter how hard I try--as for feeling pain, neither do I.

A Youth's Experience

Youths can often give a fine witness because they are so sincere at heart. For example; This one young girl and her father went out to do street witnessing. As they stood there humbly displaying their magazines people walked by to and fro.

Finally a Catholic Priest came by, and the little girl kindly said, "Sir, would you like to read our latest copy of the Watchtower and Awake magazines? The Catholic Priest looked with a very stern look on his face and said, "If you were to give me those magazines, I would use them for toilet paper."

To his surprise, Our little sister told him, "Sir, I wouldn't do that if I were you. It's been said that the word of God is sharper than any two edged sword." Hebrews 4:12

Out of the Mouth Of Babes

Out of the mouth of youths, Jehovah has furnished praise. This was true regarding one youth of tender age, whose parents had left him alone at home briefly. At the same time there happen to be a Catholic priest canvassing the neighborhood looking for church membership.

Well, finally this priest made his way to this witness home. He knock at the door. This young youth of about four years of age opens the door, the priest ask for his parents. He told the priest his parents were not home at the time. The priest then offered the young man some religious information, but he would not take it. The priest then offered the young man candy, and he ate that.

The priest then tried to reason with the young child, by asking him if he wanted God to hear his prayers? The youth answered, "Yes." Then the priest told him if he wanted God to hear his prayers, he would need a priest to pray with him to act as a mediator.

The young boy ask the priest if he remembered the story of Jonah and the big fish. The priest answered, "Yes." The little boy told the priest that Jonah was alone in the belly of the big fish, and God not only heard his prayer but He answered it. The priest quietly walked away. Parents, are you training your children?
