[*] A better flight-thru-clouds (Venus 3.5, a simple VR thing)

Version 3.5 restores the mouse control: if you want to take a
flight in your own hand, grab the mouse, hold on its button, and move
however you wish to. This is a pretty good way to check the speed of
3D rendering.

The Venus window is not only movable and _full-screen_
zoomable, but also resizable. Click at the lower right corner (a
resize box will show) and size the window _any_ way you wish.

You can now load your own elevation map (and even supply your
own colormap to color the pixels). The distribution has two sample
files you can drop onto the application's icon.

The README file in the distribution archive tells more details.

The submission contains the source plus a compiled PowerMac
application. BTW, the Venus flies through screens of various depths;
although for the full-screen mode, it's better to set the monitor to
256 colors.

Keywords: voxel 3D rendering, visualization, animation, elevation map,
panning

Language: C++, CodeWarrior11
System: System 7.x (7.5.5)

[*] CommuniGate POP 2.5

CommuniGate(tm) POP
                          Edition 2.5

The CommuniGate POP is a CommuniGate communication module supporting E-mail
message transfer using the POP3 Internet protocol (RF1939, RFC1725) via TCP/IP
networks. MIME (RFC 1341) support and various attachment encoding methods are
provided with the CommuniGate Server kernel itself.

The CommuniGate POP module supports multi-stream communications. For each
registered user, POPGate can retrieve messages from several remote mailboxes.
CommuniGate POP can retrieve mail for your entire domain using so-called
"Unified Domain-wide accounts" and distribute it.

The CommuniGate POP module can operate as a POP3 server, providing access to
CommuniGate user mailboxes for several remote users simultaneously. It can
also provide access to Unified-Domain wide accounts.

The latest version of the CommuniGate POP module can be downloaded from:
<http://www.stalker.com>
or
<ftp://ftp.stalker.com>

To be notified about updates:
send any message to <mailto:cgate-on@stalker.com>

This version:

2.5 24-Aug-97
* Serving POP clients via AppleTalk is implemented.

2.4 13-Jun-97
* The new STREAMS kernel manager is used for all communications.
* The new "unconditional" priority is used for incoming connections
(important if the server also runs a dial-up IP gateway).
* The "200 visible messages per mailbox" limitation is removed.

2.3.1 16-May-97
* Module name changed to POP
* The new Apple technique is used to avoid the situation when the
  CommuniGate POP server becomes "deaf".
* The balloon help is implemented for the Service Settings dialog box.

[*] CommuniGate SMTP 2.8 (Anti-Spam & AppleTalk support)

CommuniGate SMTP.
                          Edition 2.8

The CommuniGate SMTP is a server communication module supporting E-mail
message transfer using the SMTP and ESMTP Internet protocols (RFC821, RFC1425,
RFC1854, RFC1869) via TCP/IP networks. In addition, it supports receiving
E-mail even via dial-up connections - by means of wake-up E-mails and/or the
Remote Queue Starting procedure described in RFC1985 (in both the client and
server modes). MIME (RFC 1341) support and various attachment encoding methods
are provided within the CommuniGate Server kernel itself.

The CommuniGate SMTP is designed to support both direct and dial-up Internet
connections. It allows you to run a full-featured Internet E-mail server even
if you do not have a direct IP link to the Internet.

The CommuniGate SMTP module supports multi-stream communications, and it can
send messages to and receive messages from several other hosts simultaneously.

The CommuniGate SMTP module can work together with the CommuniGate POP and
CommuniGate IMAP modules providing complete TCP/IP Internet E-mail services.

The CommuniGate SMTP module can work together with the CommuniGate UUCP module
providing both TCP/IP and UUCP Internet E-mail. The CommuniGate Router takes
care of directing messages to the proper gate.

The CommuniGate SMTP module can protect the server from being used as a mail
relay (for "spam"), and it can distinguish messages sent by registered users.

The CommuniGate SMTP module can accept AppleTalk connections providing mail
services to both TCP/IP and AppleTalk-savvy mailers (as Claris Emailer(tm)).

[*] Deskpop 1.0b9

What does "Deskpop" do?
Deskpop is a Control Strip module which lists all volumes, folders and
files currently on the Mac's desktop. This is especially useful for the
(hopefully short) time the desktop is cluttered. Folders are displayed
with the underline style. Volumes (a.k.a. Disks) are displayed with the
bold bold+underline style. The Trash is displayed with the bold style.

Selecting an item from the Deskpop menu will open it. Holding down the
Control+Option keys will reveal it in the Finder. Holding down the
Control+Shift keys will move the selected item to the Trash. If the
selected item is a volume, Control+Shift+selecting will unmount it and
eject it, if it's ejectable. These key combinations can be modified
using the "Deskpop Keys" dialog, which is accessible from the Deskpop
menu item with the same name.

Requirements
Requires Mac OS 7.1 or better, and scriptable Finder (which is
integrated into Mac OS 7.5 and better, I believe).

[*] Diktafon 1.2.1 - Transcribing/Dictation-Software

What is Diktafon?
Diktafon records sounds to your hard drive and features a convenient
built-in text editor.

Diktafon is useful for transcribing or dictation purposes. Forinstance,
you want to send an audio letter to your mother, but you also want to
keep a written record of it. Or perhaps you have recorded a conversation
or TV program on tape, and you want to write down the dialogue. Diktafon
is your answer!

In this all-in-one program, you can play, pause, rewind, and fast-forward
the sound while typing into the built-in text editor, eliminating the need
for separate sound- and text-editing applications. The text editor allows

[*] MacDNR v1.3

MacDNR is a simple utility for doing DNS lookups. It allows you to perform
all lookup services offerred by the MacDNR. Further, it is fully asynchronous
so that you can run lookups in the background and, if you have Open Transport,
can run any number of simultaneous lookups. It was constructued using the
EasyTCP(tm) DNR library that I have just completed, which makes DNS queries on
a Mac very easy. Look for the EasyTCP(tm) TCP/IP library in the future.

Version 1.3 corrects the following bugs:

+ Fixed a major bug that prohibited machines running MacTCP to use MacDNR
+ Fixed a memory bug which caused the machine to freeze when out of memory
+ Fixed a bug that caused MacDNR to crash when escape was pressed in an alert
+ Added a few cosmetic details
+ Cleaned up the exit code

[*] Niji 1.2.1 (Formerly OneStep), the good one!

Objective Software announces the release of Niji 1.2.1, a minor update to
the Niji System extension (formerly OneStep).

Program: Niji 1.2.1
Support: Objective Software <mailto:niji@dial.oleane.com>
Author: Harry Alloul, Bernard Frangoulis and
           Alessandro Levi Montalcini
Price: $15 (shareware, see docs for more info)
Register: http://order.kagi.com/?HL&;S
Info: http://www.netinfo.fr/objectivesw/

Niji is a cool system extension that changes your Mac's user interface.
Features include custom windows, menus, pop-ups, scroll bars, buttons,
icons, and more.

Niji requires System 7.0 or later, and is fully compatible with Mac OS 8.

New in this version:
- A bug in the window miniaturize/collapse box was fixed.
- Windows can now have "fat frames" (ŕ la Mac OS 8, or even wider), which
are
  drawn using patterns.
- All icm's small icons, which were difficult to edit, were replaced by ics'
s:
this will make the work of Appearance designers much easier.

These changes are a first glimpse of what will come in the next major
update of Niji:
- installation of Appearances without rebooting,
- patterns for menus and menubar,
- patterns for progress bars,
- patterns for the background of Finder windows,
- use of clut resources for colors.

OneStep And Niji
Niji is the new name for our former OneStep software. We had to change
the name because OneStep was already a trademark, and the trademark owner
asked us not to use it. OneStep was designed to give the Mac a true NeXT
look. Niji has a broader scope: it lets you change your Mac's user
interface at will, choosing from a variety of Appearance files or even
creating your own. Niji is the Japanese word for Rainbow: "Ni" as in
"NIEce", "ji" as in
"JIngle"...

[*] Program Switcher v4.4.0

I would like to announce the release of Program Switcher v4.4.0!

For a long time, Windows(tm) users have enjoyed the ease of being able to
switch between running applications with the alt-tab keystroke. Many Mac
users, while not envious of the other operating system, wished the
MacOS(tm) would have a similar feature. Program Switcher is meant to not
only add that feature to your Macintosh, but also improve on it so that
the other operating system's users will wish their alt-tab feature was as
good as the Mac's.

Features include:

   - Seven different switching themes
   - The ability to quit any number of applications at one time
   - The ability to hide specific applications with a keystroke
   - User configurable keys and appearance
   - Kaleidoscope savvy
   - FAT control panel
   - Much More!

You may download Program Switcher from the Program Switcher web site at:

     http://www.kamprath.net/claireware/program_switcher.html

New in this version:

   - Support for the new MacOS 8 contextual menu manager
   - A public API that any programmer can use to enhance their
application with Program Switcher features

[*] ProMaker Utils 1.0.1 - For the FileMaker Professional

Announcing the release of ProMaker Utils 1.0. This is a FileMaker Pro
productivity tool for enhancing working with ScriptMaker.

If you are a FileMaker Pro 3.0 user or developer and write ScriptMaker
scripts this small application can save you a lot of time. ProMaker Utils
makes it possible to paste an entire ScriptMaker script (all steps) from a
TEXT file into a FileMaker Pro script. No more clicking until your hands
hurt, just enter them in one go!

New features in version 1.0.1:
- Added support for Undo.
- Added AppleScript support to start pasting a script.
- ProMaker now saves and restores window positions of files.
- Added "FileMaker like"- text selection features, like command arrow left
for moving the insertion point to the start of the line.
- Fixed a serious problem with MacOS 8.0.

Please use this 1.0.1 version if you are going to use ProMaker with MacOS 8.0.
How does it work?
- Open FileMaker Pro and the script you want to paste the steps in.
- Use ProMaker Utils to open a TEXT file with the script-steps in it (some
sample text files are included).
- Enter the complete script by pressing command-E.

ProMaker Utils will bring FileMaker to the front and start pasting the
steps into the selected script. It is that simple.
System Requirements
Macintosh with 68030 or better or Power Macintosh.
System 7.1 or later (also tested on the upcoming 8.0 release).
ProMaker Utils requires 750 Kb of RAM.
ProMaker Utils doesn't use a patch or an extension so no potential
conflicts there.
Of course you need a copy of FileMaker Pro, this should be version 3.0v4,
or an International version.
IMPORTANT: Please update to v4: At the moment no support for older versions
is given. You should update FileMaker to the v4 version before using
ProMaker Utils (updating is a good idea anyway, as it fixes some nasty
bugs). These updaters can be found at: <http://www.claris.com/software> or
at <ftp://ftp.claris.com/pub>.

[*] Russian Roulette (D) 2.0

Russian Roulette 2.0 Barrels are placed on the perimeter of an arena.
Inside the arena are reflectors. Shoot bullets
into the arena so they bounce off the reflectors
and smash barrels. One of the barrels
(you don't know which) will blow up the entire
arena if you shoot it. You can also choose to
have the reflectors flip when hit. This makes
                           the game -much- harder!

This is the German translation, done by Manfred Mothes.

disk failure. Synchronize! is quick, too, because it copies only the files
which have changed.

> Apple Guide - step by step instructions (System 7.5 only)
> Drag and drop - set folders by dragging from the desktop (System 7.5 only)

[*] Taste Test

These Icons are just a quick taste test. They are a few that didn't make
the cut for my collection. If you like these ones then keep an eye out
for my next ones to come out( "Hand Carved ź" and also "Metaphorical
ź"), they are really cool and I have put allot of work into them. Hand
Carved ź is a set of Misc. folders and aplication folders. Metaphorical
ź is one I really like, it is well using folders in a metaphorical
sense, as the name suggests. I'll leave it at that, but if you see any
of these sets around get them.

Oh, I'll also mention my PowerBook Icons ("Hand Carved Books").

Enjoy this set of Icons. They are all crafted in Photoshop.

From: Roger A. Barrus rbarrus@ix.netcom.com
Subject: TEKS Master 1.0 Demo

Announcing the release of TEKS Master 1.0. This software has been
developed to expedite the distribution of the TEKS information to the
educational community. The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)
was developed by the Texas Education Agency as a result of legislation
contained in Senate Bill 1. TEKS were developed for sixteen content
areas. This is the first significant revision of curriculum for public
education since the Essential Elements were implemented in 1984.

The most important features of TEKS Master Software are :

* Works on most Macintosh® computers.
* TEKS information can be retrieved quickly.
* Specific text can be found using the find feature.
* TEKS Master Software is a stand-alone application.
(This means that you can install it on your Mac and
use this software regardless of the word processor
     that you are using.)
* You can export text to be used in other applications.
* Does not require a lot of memory to run.
* Can be distributed via intranet networks.
* Each grade level has a seperate chapter for easy
   access.
* Does not weigh 80 pounds and use three feet of
shelf space like the paper version does. ( Measurements
are approximations based on previous versions of the
   TEKS. :-) )
* Copies can be distributed at a fraction of the cost of
printing, distributing and storing paper copies.

[*] Verbs & Nouns 1.6.7 - foreign language learning

Here is the new verision of the 'Verbs and Nouns' application - 1.6.7.

'Verbs & Nouns' is an application for practising inflection, translation
and pronunciation at the level of single words. Features include the
opportunity to do inflection exercises, and translation exercises in
both directions; to record and play sound for single words; and to do
exercises based on sound. The program keeps a record of exercises, and
identifies the words that the student has difficulty with. Along with
the program, you need a module for the target language concerned. The
program can also be used as an authoring tool to write your own modules
of inflected words for any language. A built-in 'inflection-generator'
simplifies the addition of these words. A 'Find' feature allows the
modules to be used as bilingual dictionaries.

Ready-made modules are already available for certain languages, for instance:
Italian Verbs [/info-mac/edu/lang/italian-verbs-127.hqx],
Italian Nouns [/info-mac/edu/lang/italian-nouns-11.hqx],
Polish Nouns [/info-mac/edu/lang/polish-nouns-12.hqx],
Russian Verbs and Nouns, Swiss-German Verbs and Nouns,
Modern Greek Verbs [/info-mac/data/modern-greek-verbs-10.hqx].
I've also adapted a public domain English-to-English dictionary
to use with this program
