The photo shows the Texelstroom in the dock
"Akerboom" for repairs in Oegstgeest, near Leyden.
At the
same time the "Lauwers" was being built, a sistership
of the
"Slenk" on which Mr. Steigstra was to be skipper.
Both ships
were built specifically for laying buoys.
On the bow the
name "Texelstroom" can be seen written in letters
that
increase in size towards aft. In the mast the
pulley for
hoisting the buoys is visible. Aft there is the
wheelhouse
which dates from after the sailing era and protected
the
pilot from the elements.
