Flying Cascadilla Brothers

A Call for New Members.

New Recruits Needed to Fill the Ranks

The Flying Cascadilla Brothers are in need of new members.  To keep the club at it's current level of national prestige, we need to increase our ranks and add athletes who are willing to uphold the Cascadilla creed and  perform with the dignity and class rarely seen on the modern athletic world.
We ask all members to recruit new athletes whenever they can.  Prospective members should be reminded that, unlike most other athletic clubs, The Flying Cascadilla Brothers does not ask members to pay yearly dues.  We hold to the sprit of the 1960's, when running, biking, swimming, were sports unencumbered by politics and greed.  Besides this dandy newsletter, the club can provide race support, training advice, baby sitting services, a number of aliases to race under, and, when needed, a shoulder to cry on.  We even have a web site that I'm fairly certain is still operational.  It can be found at:  http://www.altavista.com/howdy/dwight@sparc1.oasis.com.  A new, expanded version of the web site may be coming soon.
After becoming a club member, an athletes responsibilities con

Late Breaking News

Michael Cordi and Karin Bobier established Flying Cascadilla Brothers club biking records in a 10 mile time trial conducted by the Tioga Velo club, a cycling club based in he Binghamton, NY area.  The TVC is noted for having an "elite" branch called "Team Binghamton" that refuses to allow woman (like Monica Cej--who could beat most of their men.)  Clearly a lawsuit is in order, but that's another story.
In his first cycling race after only 10 days of  biking, Cordi completed the flat 10 mile out-and-back course in 29:18.
"My thighs were burning and my mouth and throat were as dry as some clichéd simile like the the Sahara desert," Cordi noted.

Although impressed by people, especially  old people, who could go faster than he, Cordi  still went fast enough to go into oxygen debt and have a hallucination that mountain biking might actually be a good sport for him to try.
One of those who could go faster than Cordi was Karin Bobier, who finished in 28:46.  This was impressive because she dropped a chain in the middle of the course. Equally impressive was the way  she was able to put the chain back on without stopping.  She was also weighed down by carrying extra metal.  And it was really hot and humid out. Thank God she found some product that would prevent tan lines.  They can look strange when you put on a bathing suit.  These times are new club records.

The Fine Print

By Margo Bonfeeno-Bills

I've got to be honest with you--I don't have a clue what to write about this month.  As I told you before, I really don't know all that much about running, biking, or swimming.  I mean, the kids have bikes but they are those ones with big tires and they never race.  And we go to the pool sometimes but just to splash around.  I'm only writing this column because Cliff makes me.  He said that we can't give up the space.  At times like this it really strikes me how easily life can go astray.  When you are younger you have all these plans and an idea of how you want your life to be but then, 20 years later you look back and nothing is as you planned.  I just thought I'd be farther along in life than I am.  Being an accountant isn't so bad, but I probably could have done better if I hadn't followed my future husband from college to college when ever some little thing made him upset enough to transfer.  And I wish

we had been able to stay in one place after we got married, instead of moving around because he took

different jobs.  Not that I can complain.  He's been good to me, all except during those terrible fits he has.  Well, life just seems kind of pointless at times and I'm a little disappointed that things are not better.  Oh yes, Cliff says to get out and run.
