The tournament we had on Nov 14-15 was a huge success. In the 'A' Singles, Roberto Byles from Houston took first and the $350 prize only dropping one game the whole tournament. He beat Bruce Smith from San Antonio, who took second, 21-17, 21-9. Smith defeated Caprizo from Monterrey, 12,14. Caprizo took third defeating Oscar Berstain 15,-21,17. Oscar from San Antonio was the only player to take a game from Roberto...Oscar was proud. In the 'B' Singles, the youngster Niv Regev from Houston gave Monterrey's Sergio Muniz a run for his money before falling, 22-20, 21-17, 21-17. Niv took third in the division earning him $40 defeating Rodolfo Garza, 14,12. The Monterrey players dominated the B division. They always make an effort to come to our tournaments and always fare well. Many of them who come are first time player of a sanctioned tournament and as unseeded they always add an element of surprise to the tournament. The 'C' division belong to the Valley's Ray Hernandez who defeated his long time rival Fernando Garcia, who got second, -21, 22,16. This was a game that went down to the wire and was a good match to watch. Fernando defeated Gabriel Panola -22, 18, 19. Gabe took third. The 'D' division belong to Doug Wade from Corpus who defeated our own young Phillip Joiner, 11,-22, 17. Phillip did take second in the division defeating Reggie Garza-21, 12, 12. We our all very proud of Phillip in his first tournament. Since he takes his training from Bob and myself he better do good!
