Players and fans agree that Leanne Barrette is a player who displays extreme sportsmanship. The two-time winner of the Robby Professionalism Award tied fellow PWBA player, Kim Terrell, in votes for the 2000 season. In a tie-breaker vote, most players wanted both to share the honors, but there can only be one winner. It was another close race; Kim edged Leanne for Robby Award winner by a narrow margin. The Robby Award is given to a bowler who demostrates professional conduct on and off the lanes. But don't let that soft-spoken demeanor and smile fool you if you are her opponent. She is one of the most experienced and toughest competitors one can come up against. Although winless in 2000, Barrette made it to five televised finals, placing second twice. She had 11 top ten finishes and cashed 19 out of 23 tournaments. She ended the year ninth in average and rankings, averaging 210.62 in 809 games and tenth in earnings; earning $66,375. She was able to stay ahead of Carol Gianotti-Block in career earnings in fifth with $847,928.50. Leanne, otherwise known as "Boomer" for her extreme hook, has also added two more 300's to her list of accomplishments. Her strong release has given her a total of 34 perfect games over her career. Leanne is an Ebonite Pro Staffer and is going into her 15th year as a professional. Since being voted Rookie of the Year in 1987, Barrette has put together an impressive resume. She was 1991 BWAA Bowler of the Year and was the first bowler voted consecutive years for PWBA Player of the Year in 1990-91'. The five-time WIBC All-American and seven-time Bowler's Journal All-American is the only player to win PWBA's High Average Award three consecutive years (1990-1992). Barrette's 21 national titles are fifth on the Career Professional Titles list. [Info from the PWBA website] [Picture from 1999 PWBA Tour Guide] |
