The Latest News on the Flyers

I'm slow on getting the news about my favorite player up, but here it is. John LeClair was awarded a 7 million dollar contract for the 2000-01 seqason by the arbitrator. He is trying to sign a long term deal with the Flyers. He has also said that once training camp starts he will no longer participate in any contract negotitation so that he can concentrate solely on playing. He does want to stay with Philadelphia. YAY!

John LeClair has filed for salary arbitration. He was offered a 5 year contract worth 25 million but turned it down. Should his case go all the way to an arbitrator he will be signed for one year after which he would be an unrestricted free agent. Bobby (Call me Bob) Clarke has said that he will trade Johnny to avoid not getting compensation for him. Hey Bobby!! GIVE THE BEST PLAYER ON YOUR TEAM THE CONTRACT!

Bobby (Call me Bob) Clarke never ceases to amaze me. Most people with a goalie who is going into his second season would hold onto a veteran goalie to be the back up even if his price is high. That way if the young goalie needs guidance or help the veteran goalie helps out because he has been there. Instead Beezer was traded for a fourth round draft pick to the Islanders setting them up with a veteran and an incredible rookie (I've seen DiPietro play, believe me, he is awesome). Way to go Bobby! All Islander fans thank you wholeheartedly I'm sure...oh and while we're on the subject now that Clarke has made Beezer expendable, does anybody else remember Cujo being up for grabs that same year? Riiight.

More Lindros news. The rangers and Kings were both granted permission to talk to the soon to be restricted free agent. Just say no, Eric. The brain is an important part of your body. eric has remained true to his "undecided" announcement and doesn't look as though he's going to say anything since his father/Agent has said that Eric is still "woozy" from the last head injury.

What a guy! John LeClair has launched a new website for his Foundation. Visit it at www.johnleclairfoundation.com. He has a ton of great items for the auction to raise money for childrens charities all over Vermont. There are some truely priceless items available. Bids need to be in by the end of the month I beleive so don't waste any more time.

It's a miracle...I'm updating. I don't really have the time to do this anymore. I will try to keep my page up on the net so that people can take advantage of the pictures, which seem to be the most popular thing. I probably won't change the profiles or add any new ones unless I decide that it is absolutley necessary (ie : more info on Boucher).

So here's my playoff analysis, for those of you who care. I had predicted our boys to make it to the finals. Unfortunately they fell short, but I don't think it is anything to be sad about. The save of the playoffs was made by Boosh, the face of the playoffs was that of Johnny LeClair with 40 stitches running up his nose and over his eye and, despite losing to the Devils, I thought they made a really great run at the Cup.

I'll be right out front and say Congratulation to the Devils and all their fans. They had a great year and really deserved to win. I know, they are our rivals, but a true hockey fan can't help but be happy to see Larry Robinson raising the Cup again. Also congrats to Scott Stevens, who I was hoping would win the Conn Smythe. It seems as though he has been overlooked too many times. He is an amazimg player and great leader. No, I am not bitter baout him taking out Eric Lindros, it was a clean hit and it was obvious that he felt bad about the situation.

On the subject of Lindros I am undecided. I can say that every time he was on the ice I was scared. Scared that he would take a hit that would hurt him agin. A hit that he ended up taking part way into the first period of Game 7. Should he have been playing? I hate to say it, but no. Not because he isn't good enough or didn't belong, but only because I really worry about the long term effects of all of his concussions. Did he upset the team chemistry...I don't know. The team voted that they wanted him there. Yes he took all the attention away from everyone else, but that's what has always happened with him. I can say for sure that he will probably never again play for Philadelphia. This will surely be a huge problem for him because he always said that not winning a Cup with Philly is the same as not succeeding. Whatever he decides to do, I wish him the best of luck.

That's my rant. Let's see what the off season holds.

You've probaby noticed that updating isn't a priority for me. College will do that to you. That and the fact that I'm disgusted by what has been happening in Philadelphia. By now everybody knows about the Eric Lindros situation and has drawn their own conclusions. Well here's mine. Both Lindros and Clarke should have handled the situation differently. Both are to blame. Clarke is wrong when he says the training staff is competant. I'm an Athletic Training major and I know not to give anti-inflammatory medication to a head injury, and I'm only a second year student. John Worley should have been able to figure out that there was something wrong with Lindros. Every athlete minimizes their injuries. That's just the way it is. In my opinion, Lindros should press charges, even though he says he isn't going to. This could affect the rest of his life. Neither Lindros, Clarke or Worley can accept the full blame. It was a joint effort.

My other opinion on the Lindros situation is that hockey isn't worth it. I have heard interviews with Eric, seen pictures of him and watched him on the ice. He isn't happy. Now he's unhappy and if he suffers another concussion he may not be abe to take care of himself. I hope that somehow he could get this message. He is too young and has too much ahead of him to risk the quality of his life over hockey. Take your millions, go back up to Toronto, get that wife and family you're always talking about and leave Bob Clarke in your dust. Hockey isn't worth it. And if Bob Clarke has a problem with that, who cares. He isn't worth it either.
