The Stingrays are an ECHL (East Coast Hockey League) hockey team based in North Charleston, South Carolina. They won the Brabham Cup for best regular season record as well as the Kelly Cup for winning the playoffs. They're the first team ever to win both cups in the same season. (Thus breaking the "curse" that no team ever won both cups)

I got hooked on them last year when I was given a ticket to an exhibition game between them and the Charlotte Checkers (their arch-rivals) by a kind teacher. It was, well, addicting. So, when I ended up staying with that same teacher for half the school year, I got to go to many many more games. How can I explain the attraction of hockey as a spectator sport for me??? Hmm... first off, it's very cathartic to scream your lungs out at the game without being seen as too much of a freak. As the unfortunate people who got to sit next to me at a game (the kind teacher included) know, I screamed very--wholeheartedly. Well, it was alot of fun. Having the 'Rays win both trophys was just a great addition to my new-found obsession. (Plus, there were more games to see;) Is it coincidence that the season I started backing the Stingrays, they went all the way??? I think not... (*heeheehee* I never said I was modest) Just kidding, of course. As for players, I think that all the players are very talented and I personally couldn't do half the things they do out on the ice, even if I was 6' something (which I am most definitely NOT =) Also, attempting to ice skate has given me a whole new perspective on just how incredibly talented hockey players are. If you don't believe me, ask my bruises (that I got while getting intimately aquainted with the surface of the ice ;). However, I think I could maybe do the whole checking thing because I seem to be very good at crashing into the boards :)
In an attempt to make this page more useful to web-surfers who visit it, I put up the 96-97 player roster. Also, it's for me, since I want to have it handy, since the official page has taken it down. Watch out, though--it has alot of editorializing too!!! I did the 97-98 Roster which also has almost every player that played for us at any time this season (but is still missing a few since I'm really lazy;).
I finally finished (for now, not including results for future games, of course :)the 1997-1998 schedule and results of the Stingrays games. I put up a little page with the playoffs and results this year.
I am very disappointed as a whole in this season, but I am still rather proud of my team as a whole. They showed that they are a great pinch team, and worthy of my continuing fanship *hehe* ;) Oh, well, enough egotism!
If you really want to get info about the Stingrays, I recommend going to the REAL home page of the Stingrays here. It's a new page too, very nice and professional :)
