What's Up?

1-15-01
On Saturday, Georgia had their home opener against Number 10 ranked Florida. Georgia, despite some mistakes, came out on top, with a score of 196.5. Sierra recorded first place finishes in the vault and on bars!

1-13-01
On January 6, Sierra and the rest of the UGA team competed against Michigan, Alabama, Stanford, Florida, and Penn State in the Super 6 challenge. Georgia tied Alabama for first with a score of 193.350. Aside from an unexpected fall on bars, Sierra had an outstanding collegiate debut!

Sierra is heading home for the holidays, but is eagerly awaiting the start of her first season as a Gym dawg! On December 3, Sierra and the rest of the team competed at an intrasquad meet where they were able to test out skill and get some scores under their belts. Sierra did well and has a legitimate chance of making the roster on all four events!

Sierra is a having a great time in Athens at the University of Georgia. She loves spending time with her roomate, fellow gym dawg Cory Fritzinger, and is adjusting well to the 20 hours a week of practice. This semester, she's taking courses in English, Math, Sociology, Psychology, and Religion. She just recently completed her first round of tests:)

Sierra still has a few months before her first meet with the team, but she's really looking forward to it:)

8-3-00
Sierra has recently returned from the USA National Gymnastics Championships, where she had a great time supporting her former teamates, and being able to say goodbye to everyone who has supported her through the years.
Sierra has also spent time vacationing in California and Arizona earlier in the summer. She's had a lot of fun spending time with friends from school, dancing, having an active social life, and basically having a "normal" teenage summer. It's been a whole new life for her, but she's really enjoyed it.
Sierra leaves for Athens, Georgia and the campus to the University of Georgia in about 2 weeks. Her roomate will be fellow UGA team member, Cory Fritzinger. Sierra is looking forward to starting college and her collegiate gymnastics career.

7-6-00
Sierra is enjoying her time out of the gym. She recently attended her first concert and is now in California, enjoying a relaxing vacation and spending time with her friends and cousins. She's then coming back to Cincinnati in time to see *NSYNC. Sierra will be attending the USA National Championships at their expense to say goodbye to all of the coaches and national staff that have loved her and supported her so much over the years. Former teammate, Jennie Thompson, will accompany her.
Sierra still feels very involved with gymnastics and has a lot love for the sport left. She's looking very forward to competing at UGA, as a team:)

6-22-00
After much thought, Sierra has decided to bow out the race for the Sydney Olympic team. She is basing her decision on the recent injuries she has had. Sierra is a very hard working, dedicated athlete, so it was hard for her to see the other athletes working out at a high level each day. This decision was a smarter choice then Sierra training at half power each day. Sierra is happy with her choice at this point, and it's supported entirely by her parents, coaches, and teammates.
Sierra plans on taking a short vacation with her parents back to California to visit with her friends and family, but intends on doing some training through the summer to stay in shape for her freshmen season at the University of Georgia.

6-18-00
Congratulations to Sierra on her recent graduation from high school:)
Sierra's recovery is going well. She's putting routines and skills back together as preperation for the USA Championships, just 5 weeks away.

5-17-00
Sierra's elbow has an evolusion fracture. This is the elbow she has not previously broken. It is not a severe break, but Sierra will have to do some adjusting of her training. Because of this injury, Sierra will not be at the US Classic, but instead will petition directly to the US Championships.

5-8-00
This morning, Sierra took a fall from the uneven bars and injured her left elbow. It's thought to be broken at this point. She was going to have it examined either today or tomorrow, but I will any information I know.

5-5-00
Sierra has since been training hard since her surgery. She is doing more routines and returning to competitive shape. Sierra, with her teamates, will be at Bela Karoyli's May camp (May 13-17)

4-7-00
Sierra is now 4 weeks out of surgery and recovering very well. She has now started training again. To let her self get fully healed, she will not be attending Bela's camp this month. Her coaches and her have decided that it would be best for her to get in her best shape before she starts attending the camps again, so she will next attend Bela's May camp, which is early in May.
Sierra is having a lot of fun finishing up her senior year. She's having fun looking for a prom dress and is eagerly awaiting her graduation:)

3-29-00
Sierra's recovery is going well. She will be at Bela Karolyi's next camp, which is in early April. At this camp, teams for the upcoming Pacific Alliance Championship and USA/China Dual will be chosen.
Also, there is an article about Sierra in this month's issue of International Gymnast Magazine. If you do not subscribe to this magazine, you may be able to pick it up at your local Barnes and Noble or Borders bookstore.

3-16-00
It has been posted in an article on NBC Olympics that Sierra had surgery last week on her hip injury. Yesterday afternoon, I received verification of this as well. The surgery reattched a bone fragment that had pulled away because of the muscle strain. The surgery went well and Sierra is resting the injury now. She hopes to presume conditioning and light training as soon as possible. This injury will prevent Sierra from taking part in Bela Karolyi's training camp this weekend, but Sierra will be welcome back as soon as she is able. Right now, Sierra is focusing on getting healed, but hopes to regain competing as soon as she can.

3-3-00
Sierra's injury is worse then originally thought. However, it is a different injury then the doctors had guessed. Sierra's torn stomach muscle has progressed into an evolusion fracture in her right hip. This injury is a bit of set back for Sierra. The only thing that is really going to heal this is to lighten up the training for a while and letting her body heal.
However, Sierra did attend Bela Karolyi's camp last weekend. She has continued to impress Bela and the national team staff, as she has once again made the cut:)

2-25-00
Sierra is doing much better. She mad a minor injury to her stomach muscles and it was decided it would be best if she skipped the American Classic. I'd like to stress the fact that this is not a serious injury, and her not competing was more of a precaution, more then anything. Sierra will be leaving this weekend to participate in Bela Karolyi's next training camp. Sierra's goal is to be chosen to participate at the upcoming Pacific Alliance Championships. If you remember correctly, Sierra competed at this meet in 1997 and did very well!
Over the past few weeks, many articles have been printed about Sierra and her teamates, including this one, from the Cincinatti Enquirer. A profile of Sierra can be found linked from the article.

2-12-00
It has been circulating around the internet that Sierra is not competing at the American Classic. This is in fact true. She has a few very minor injuries she's decided to stay home and nurse. This was decided by Mary Lee, her parents, and her doctors. This is the best choice right now because Sierra will be attending Bela Karolyi's next camp. She is just trying to get everything healed up at the moment. She plans to start competing again very soon.

1-30-00
In honor of Sierra's birthday tomorrow, the elites went out last night and had a party in a restaurant in Kentucky. It was a lot of fun. Sierra has recently finished up her exams in school and is now in her last semester of high school. She is currently training for hard for the upcoming Classic meet in Reno, Nevada and Bela's traing camps.

1-26-00
Sierra has been chosen to attend Bela Karolyi's next training camp. The next camp will be in a few weeks and I will have more information as it gets closer.

1-15-00
Sierra will be attending Bela Karoyli's second training camp this weekend with her Cincinnait teamates.
Rumors have been circulating on many message boards and mailing lists about Sierra competing at the next American Cup qualifier, to be held very soon. I do not know if this is true at this point, but I am in the process of having it confirmed.

1-2-00
Sierra had a great time at Bela Karoyli's training camp. She was in a group with Brittany Smith, Marline Stephens, Tasha Schwikert, and Elise Ray. They worked on and were tested on basic strength and gymnastics elements. She will be attending another camp of Bela's soon. It will be held sometime in January at his ranch. Bela will also be at CGA this week, coaching the girls with Mary Lee to get them ready for the upcoming competition season. They've begun having intersquad meets and will be having them more frequently. Currently, everyone at CGA is healthy and this is, according to Mary Lee, is "a great blessing!"
Sierra and I would both like to extend our welcome to Sierra's newest teamate, Dominique Moceanu.

12-8-99
Sierra and her family recently spent in Georgia over the Thanksgiving holiday. They got to know Georgia gymnastics coach, Suzanne Yoculan better as well as the Athens area. They had a great time. Sierra, as well as Jennie Thompson, Alyssa Beckerman, and Morgan White will all be modeling for the newest GK leotard catalog. Also, Sierra and all of her teamates will be leaving Saturday for Bela Karoyli's first training camp in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Former world champion, Svetlana Boginskaya, was recently at CGA. She was doing some choreography work. She choreographed Sierra's new beam routine which will begin to see in early 2000!

10-24-99
Sierra has made a verbal committment to compete for the University of Georgia Bulldogs gymnastics team in the scholastic year 2001. Congratulations, Sierra!

9-30-99
Sierra recently visited The University of Utah and The University of Georgia for her college searching. She will be visiting UCLA within the next week and a half, but as of now, its definently between Utah and Georgia. Sierra really enjoyed visiting both schools and according to her parents she is going to have "a very difficult time deciding between the two!". I also have some good news. Earlier in the week, Sierra visited the specialist who operated on her elbow and she has been deemed recovered, ahead of schedule! Sierra now is truly back on the road to competing:)

9-27-99
Sierra is back in school for her senior year in high school:) She has been in the gym doing conditioning to stay in shape, as well as rehab for her elbow. She's begun the final stage in the college search and will be signing with a college in the next few months:)

8-26-99
Sierra's surgery was August 18 and it went very well:) She gets her partial cast off on August 27 and the begins rehab. She is expected to be 100% in 11-12 weeks. Next week, Sierra will be doing a photo shoot with GK Sportswear. If you receive their catalog, be on the lookout for Sierra in upcoming issues. Sierra and her family will also be going to California next week to visit with family and to just take a nice vacation.

8-24-99
I now have some more detailed information in regards to Sierra's injury. About a week ago, Sierra was in practice, working on the bars. She was practicing a toe shoot from the low bar to the high bar when she fell. She didn't have a tight enough grip and slipped. She used her hand to brace herself and at that time, her elbow dislocated. Apparently, when it went back into place, a chip of her bone was taken off by her ligament. She has already had 2 MRI's on her arm and elbow and surgery has been scheduled. When I receive more information from Sierra's parents, I will post it.

8-20-99
As you may have heard, Sierra has withdrawn from the upcoming USA National Championships. Shortly after returning from the US Classic, Sierra fell off of the bars and dislocated her elbow. I am not entirely sure of the situation, as I have been at camp for the past week. From what I understand, she will be having surgery very shortly. She will more then likely be out of world trials as well. I will post more when I learn of the actual situation.

8-8-99
Sierra did EXCELLANT last night at the US Classic. She had a very good meet with some tough competition, but Sierra ended up placing first all around. Sierra also set two new high scores for herself, on vault and balance beam. Sierra's next meet will be the 1999 John Hancock USA Gymnastics Championships. I'll post more information about the meet in the next few days when I receive some from Sierra's parents.

8-3-99
Sierra will be competing this weekend at the US Classic in Rochester, New York. She's competing in the senior session on Saturday night (8/7). I will not be able to update this site immediately, as I will be out of town, but stay tuned to USA Gymnastics for more updates.
