Sligo Rovers 1-0 Kilkenny City
This marked Rovers first league win of the season. Sligo were hard pressed in the first half by the home side. Kilkenny peppered the Sligo goal and their only consolation was a high corner count. Rovers only chance was missed by Falcon Rose when he fluffed his shot way over the bar.
Reid's team talk at half time had the desired affect, along with the long awaited substitution of Southworth. Lee Shearer replaced him, he is on a months trial from Leyton Orient. He made a marked improvement to the defence.
Seven minutes into the second half Rose missed a complete sitter. He was free at the back post and only six yards out but managed to hit it wide with a goal begging. On the 66th minute Sligo got the breakthrough. Mark Hutchinson picked up a throw and crossed excellently from the left where Steve Jones met it with his head and looped a header over Ashley Stephenson and into the goal.
Rovers first win also was their first clean sheet and the fact that Southworth's worth was acknowleged by his half time substitution all mark an upturn in fortunes at the Showgrounds.
