DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

For 15 minutes, it looked like Butler was going to the Sweet Sixteen. They were up 22-15 after Darnell Archey hit a 3-pointer. They were still riding the emotion of their first round victory over Wake Forest, and had the Arizona Wildcats down early. But they seemed to hit a wall, and Zona ended the half on a 15-4 run. It only got worse for Butler in the second half, as the Cats played stifling defense that was everywhere Butler wanted to be. The Bulldogs were stuck on 36 points for about 7 minutes, and by the time we finally scored again it was too late. Arizona advanced to San Antonio, ending Butler's dream season 73-52. The 24 wins by Butler are the most ever in school history, and there's certainly nothing to hang one's head over in losing to one of the hottest teams in the country.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: LaVall Jordan made sure he went out firing in his last game in a Butler uniform. The senior closed out his career with a game high 17 points and a team high 6 rebounds. He once again played solid defense on a much taller opponent, and closed out a career that spanned the most successful 4 year period in Butler basketball history. Congratulations to LaVall on a wonderful career, and thanks for all the memories.

Joel Cornette was Butler's only other double-digit scorer, finishing with 12 points. Rylan Hainje had 7 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 blocked shots. Thomas Jackson had a tough game, finishing with 5 points and 2 assists and commiting 4 turnovers. Brandon Miller had 4 points and 3 steals. Off the bench, Darnell Archey had 5 points, and Scott Robisch added a second half bucket. Arizona had a balanced attack with 4 starters in double-digits, led by Gilbert Arenas' 15 points.

It's sad that it had to come to an end, but what a ride it's been. School record 24 wins...5th straight 20-win season...2 wins over top 25 opponents...5th straight postseason appearance...4th NCAA in 5 years...first NCAA win in 39 years...as a Butler fan, you couldn't have asked for much more. At some point, I'll sum it all up, but for now, I'm just going to savor it all. Thank you, to the players, coaches, and staff of Butler University, for an amazing and unforgettable season.
