DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

Butler evened its conference record at 1-1 with a 65-52 victory over the Cleveland State Vikings. After suffering through a cold shooting first half (26%), the Bulldogs turned up the defense and got to the free throw line in the second half. Butler took its first lead at 42-40 on the second of two straight 3-pointers by Brandon Miller, and took the lead for good at 49-47 on 2 technical foul free throws by Darnell Archey.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Junior Thomas Jackson. TJ was one assist away from a double-double, finishing with 18 points and 9 assists. He was also 10-of-11 at the free throw line.

Three other Bulldogs hit double figures, led by Brandon Miller's 14 (4-for-6 from 3). LaVall Jordan added 12 points on 3-of-5 from downtown before fouling out. Rylan Hainje finished with 10 points and 6 rebounds. Joel Cornette hauled down 10 rebounds, 4 on the offensive side. Cleveland State was led by Theo Dixon's 18 points.

It was certainly a tale of 2 halves. Butler went from 26% shooting in the first half to 41% in the second, while the Vikings went from 50% to 36%. The Bulldogs actually shot better from 3-point range for the game (40%) than from inside the arc (31%). They also held Cleveland State without a free throw attempt in the second half. While the Bulldogs were outrebounded 34-32, they did pull down 17 offensive boards. CSU turned the ball over 20 times, and Butler just 7.

Butler's biggest conference rival comes to town on Saturday in what is sure to be a war. Rashad Phillips and the Detroit Titans invade Hinkle Fieldhouse on Saturday, January 13, at 2 pm. The game will be televised on FoxSports Midwest. Hope to see you there.
