DAVE'S POSTGAME ANALYSIS

Evansville defeated Butler for the first time since the Aces left the MCC, 74-73. Butler was 4-0 against Evansville since the series was renewed in 1996, but the Aces were finally able to get the monkey off their back. I didn't listen to the game, so I can't say much about what happened. The Bulldogs had a chance to win the game late, but an in-bounds alley-oop from Thomas Jackson to Rylan Hainje was just a little bit too high. The ball tipped off of Rylan's hands and fell to the ground, and Butler was unable to recover in time for a desperation shot.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Hainje, without question. Rylan fell one rebound short of a triple double, finishing with 23 points and 9 boards. Coach Matta definitely liked what he saw out of Rylan, playing him 38 minutes

Rylan had some help, but it wasn't quite enough to get the 'W'. LaVall Jordan 13 points and 3 steals, Darnell Archey added 13 points off the bench, and Joel Cornette scored 10 points before fouling out. Thomas Jackson had 7 assists and 6 rebounds. Evansville was led by Chuck Hedde with 14 points and 5 rebounds, and Kyle Runyan with 14 points.

The stats tell some interesting tales. We outrebounded the Aces, 26-22, which was good to see. But we turned the ball over 17 times. It's tough to win ANYWHERE with that many turnovers, let alone on the road. We shot a remarkable 56% for the game, so our offense was not the problem. Our defense was lacking, and that ultimately sealed our fate. Evansville shot 51% from the field on the evening. They also took advantage of their free throws, converting 23-of-26 (89%).

The road doesn't get any easier for Butler. They travel to Terre Haute this Wednesday (12/6) to face the Indiana State Sycamores. ISU is playing really good basketball these days, and is still riding the high of defeating Indiana for the second straight year. Game time is 7 pm. Hope to see you there.
