The Gagarin

The Gagarin was a once obscure and seldom used scientific unit of measurement of weight, but one which today is rapidly gaining in popularity for various specialized performance calculations. Its origins remain in dispute, but the most commonly held view is that it was derived from the average weight during the 1980s of the semi-famous American Orienteer and Wheaties Box cover model Peter Gagarin. The alternative hypothesis is that it has something to do with the amount of weight the typical NFL starting defensice tackle can comfortably bench press with one hand while using the other hand to eat a massive slab of chocolate pound cake.

Because of it's very special nature and flexibility, The Gagarin is especially favored as the unit of measurement for certain athletics based research applications.
