Miserable Cub Fan Comment of the Week!

I have been a Cubs fan since the 70's when they used to have a Cubs AA ballclub here in Midland, TX. My wife and I made the pilgramige to Wrigley two years ago for our 25 wedding aniversary. We enjoy watching the games on WGN. But I think cub fans all over the country should be up in arms over the lack of games not televised this year. I mean when we miss the match up of the year between Kerry Woods and Greg Maddux and instead they televise Buffy The Vampire Slayer, come on something is wrong with this picture.

Good news for all you fans outside of the Chicago area. WGN has heard your collective cries of pain and agony and decided to move more Cubs' games from CLTV to WGN!!! Harry would be proud.

Here's What Some Miserable Cubs Fans Have Had To Say Lately...

sammy sosa is one of the best latino players in the league...he is also the most underrated...like alot of latin america baseball players...he does alot for the community as well as give great contributions to the game its self...i dont know why people are so hard on him...get off his back has done more then alot of the rest of the cubs...in fact the cubs suck its just sammy holding up the team...go sammy smack #60!!!! 7/29/98

I still don't buy that crud that "Sammy is carrying the Cubs" -- (Almost) Everyone knows that pitching wins ball games (i.e. the Braves). However, Sammy has been coming through for the Cubs in pressure situations which he has not done up to this year (No Grand Slams before this year). The difference this year has been the emergence of Kerry Wood. All must offer thanks and praise to Kerry for revitalizing the Cubs! By the way, 62 will break the record.

I was viewing your web site and noticed pictures of Henry, Mickey, and Jeff with a caption of "So This is the Best That the Cubs Front Office Can Come Up With? Just Take A Look At These Guys!!! This Year Is Going To Suck!!!" Have you been paying any attention at all to this season? Ever heard of Sammy Sosa? How about Kerry Wood? Right now the Cubs have the Wild Card spot and I'm positive that this is the best Cubs team in the past decade and that they will go to the playoffs. Next time check up on the facts before you make false accusations. 7/24/98

It's not false accusations, it's lack of time. I have not updated this page all season and I am sorry. I am very excited about this year's team and I am already standing in line to get playoff tickets!

I'm seriously not miserable. I'm a Cub fan and I feel great! They are the wild card, coming up right behind the 'Stros, and Sosa is in the homerun race! This is their year! Cubs are goin' all the way, baby! Yeah! (That's my new sayin'!) If the Cubs were doing any better, they would make the Braves look like a bunch of rookies! You're just jealous of the Cubs because they're beating the hell out of this curse and the Sox are getting the hell beat out of them!

See Above. By the way, if I were a Sox fan, why would I take the time to do this web page?

I have been a miserable cub fan since 1945 when I saw the cubs play 6 doubleheaders, a phenom which has become as extinct as greed as become pervasive. I moved to the west coast in '62 to get away from the miserable cubbies but it did not help. Hey, everything is relative. This is a relatively GOOD year. Of course we have not been thru the August swoon yet, so it's hard to get up too much. Signed, David Gortner age 12 in 1945. My favorite Cubbie is still Mr. E. Banks. No one has ever had wrists like Ernie. 7/22/98

Thank you very much for your e-mail David. Your pessimism is appreciated!

anyone who thinks that jose hernandez will be enough for the Cubbies' 3rd base problems (I am talking to you McFail and Flynch) has lost it. Has anyone noticed that Jose has more strikeouts than base hits. He strikes out more than once every 4 at bats. C'mon - he is a pretty good utility infielder who had a hot month - he has done this every year - it is just that he got enough at bats this time. Cubs need to get a clue - trade Jose now - maybe ol Jery on the South side would take Jose and Jeremi for Ventura. 7/17/98

That trade would be too good to be true. However, Jose is the Ultimate Utility Man! What can he not do? I agree that he is not an everyday player, but give the guy some credit.
