A Country Rag Country Reckoning

For some poetry is an acquired taste. For others, the valleys, mountains, rivers and creeks of Appalachia whisper a special song. Here's one.

Enchantment

By Anna Joyce Star

Enchantment dwells where fairies sing
their ancient ritual of spring
in sylvan settings so serene
they're seldom heard and never seen.

On sacred ground, their rites enhance
the magic gathered in a dance
in woods aglow with amber-dust
and scents allured of moss and musk.

In full array the moon shines bright
upon a dark and quiet night
of stillness broken by the beat
of rhythm from their dancing feet.

A haunting melody so fair
drifts an illusion o'er the air
of tiny flutes and tinkling bells,
of fairies casting magic spells.

Elusive sounds of silken wings
--strange, mysterious whisperings--
allude to secrets no one tells
in places where enchantment dwells.
