As I indicated on the main page of this section, I have been an avid reader since childhood. Even though I work 10 to 12 hour days, spend hours each week in front of the computer, and many more hours taking care of my home and family, I always set aside at least an hour or two a day for reading....I find that it relaxes and rejuvenates me in a way that no other activity can. On this page, I will share with you some of the books I am reading, as well as provide you with a wealth of links to other great review sites. I hope to have a new book review on this page at least twice a month.

BOOK REVIEW FOR 5/8/2000

TITLE: London

AUTHOR: Edward Rutherfurd

PUBLISHER: Fawcett Crest, New York, 1997

PLOT SUMMARY:

From the author of "Sarum" and "Russka" comes another sprawling epic. From the days of Caesar through the London blitz, the history of this great city through the centuries comes alive, as seen through the eyes of Rutherfurd's fictitious characters, the Ducket, Barnikel, Carpenter, Bull, Fleming, and Silversleeves families and their descendants.

The story is told in anthology form. Each of the twenty-one chapters covers a significant event in the city's history, interspersed with stories of the lives of its characters. Although linked, each chapter of London can be read as a novella on its own.

IMPRESSION:

This book makes for GREAT bedtime reading! Absorbing, yet very convenient to put down. Although this book is over 800 pages in length, the mini-novels within are just the right length for a nighttime read. Each chapter is filled with interesting stories, characters, and facts about London. Rutherfurd has researched his subject exceptionally well. Not only will his readers be entertained with a great story, but they will also finish this epic work with a much better knowledge of and appreciation for this great city.
