Advantages

  • A cute position, with most of the diagonal and vertical attacking points covered with a counterattack.
  • Twin Rooks in the center, the prescribed position from which to launch rook attacks.
  • The "Crash" is so named because of the potential for attacks on diagonals and files, which is inevitable based on the positioning of the pieces.

Disadvantages

  • A weak Kingside after the castling move. h2 may actually become a coveted spot to evade from attacks.
  • Weak pawns on e4 and g2 will take some time to stabilise, during which they are subject to torture.
  • The exposed Bg5 is easily chased away, allowing a potential diagonal strike on the King.

Move Sequence
  1. e4. The King's Pawn Opening.
  2. Nf3. The King's Knight Opening.
  3. Bc4. The English Opening.
  4. c3. Releasing the Queen.
  5. Qb3. An early threat on f7.
  6. d4. Releasing the Queenside pieces.
  7. Bg5. A pin on Nf6.
  8. Nd2. Interlocking both Knights.
  9. h3. Against Bg4.
  10. 0-0-0. The castle on the unexpected side.
  11. Rhe1. The last piece in the puzzle.
  12. This position works best if d4 is not traded. If it is, then Re1 should be good enough to defend your e-pawn until the rest of the defense is put into place.

Pitfalls
Throughout the entire opening sequence, black can give white trouble with these moves:
  • Na5 forks both the Queen and Bishop gaining a well-placed piece for the Knight
  • h6 prevents your Bg5 move and keeps the Bishop in the center, blocking the Rooks
  • Nf4 is hard to remove, and causes a lot of difficulty with placing your pieces

Similar Openings
1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 is the King's Knight Opening.
2... Nc6 3. Bc4 is the Queen's Knight Variation.
