~Denial~ |
It is a Defense to Protect our Drinking and Drug ~illegal/perscription ~ use, a way to avoid pain. 1.) Simple denial is saying something is not true, which is really true, such as being drunk and saying you are not. 2.) Minimizing ~ admitting you have a problem, but trying to make it appear that it is not as great a problem as it really is. Yes, I've been drinking, but I only had a couple. 3.) Rationalizing ~ offering alibis, excuses, justification for your behavior. 4.) Blaming ~ not denying your behavior or drinking, but your reasoning ....spouse, employer, family, society made me do it. 5.) Intellectualizing ~ avoiding emotions, personal awareness, dealing only with generalizations or theories, always analyzing. 6.) Diversion ~ changing the subject to avoid the current situation that may be threatening. 7.) Hostility ~ becoming hostile when any reference to your alcohol/drug use or abuse or behavior is approached. 8.) There are only two (2) ways to deal with an alcohol/drug problem: A) Reject any idea that your Alcohol/ Drug use is a problem. B) Accept the fact there is a problem. ( REALITY) 9.) To effectively deal with an alcohol/drug problem the first step is deal with the denial syndrome. YOU HAVE TO ADMIT YOU HAVE A PROBLEM.....and by doing so....You... have taken the first step towards recovery!!! by Serenity on the web |
