For nearly 30 years the cast and crew of Saturday Night Live has entertained night owls with their unique brand of humor. Anyone who has ever watched the show will undoubtedly have their favorite skit or characters. This page is dedicated to the very best of SNL, and who was able to survive each round. |
Opening Round Highlights Goat Boy Falls to Gumby, John Belushi's Cheeseburger skit is upset by Fernando, Miss Emily Latella is upstaged by Akron's "Bass-O-Matic" commercial, Matt Foley finds itself the victim of Syncronized Swimming, Middle Aged Man falls to Church Lady, Point/Counterpoint is no match for Carvey's George Bush, Toonces (the cat who could drive a car) leaves courtesy of Bill Murray's Louge Singer, Happy Funball is bounced by The Ambiguously Gay Duo, Rosanne Rosannadanna is bested by the Coneheads, and New Shimmer can't stand up to Oops I Crapped My Pants. |
Round Two Highlights Copier Guy falls to Mike Meyer's Scotsman (if it's not Scottish is't cllap!), Waynes World locks up Eddie Murphy's "Images by Tyrone Green", Coffee Tawk knifes Belushi's Samurai character, Mr. Bill "oh nooooo's" to Ed Grimley, Wild n Crazy Guys stuff the cartoon Gay Duo, and the Killer Bees clean up on Oops I Crapped My Pants. |
Sweet 16 Gumby beats Meyer's Scotsman Buckwheat knocks off Feranando Waynes' World over Syncronized Swimmers Coffee Tawk stabs Samurai Chippendale cruises over Church Lady Ed Grimley (Martin Short) over Hannz n Franz Hartman's Sinatra over W&C Guys McGlocklin Group over Bees |
Great 8 Buckwheat (Murphy) over Gumby (Murphy) Wayne's World (Meyers) over Coffe Tawk (Meyers) Chippendale over Ed Grimley Hartmen's Sinatra shocks McGlocklin Final Four Waynes World defeats Buckwheat Chippendale over Sinatra |
And the winner is... Chris Farley and Patrick Swayze's rendition of the Chippendales dance contest. The physical humour of Farley, especially when bare chested, is too much. I don't know how Swayze kept a straight face. Honorable mention to the Dana Carvey and Phil Hartman classic portraying Carson and McMahon on the Tonight Show. |

The Syncronized Swimmers short's best line "I don't swim" still gets me. Gay Duo, like Toonces and even Mr. Bill before that were great off stage additions. |
Waynes World, Party On!, Excellent were Meyers and Carvey at their best. |
"Oh doe, I been dot" was the ending of a long Buckwheat affection in the early 80's. |
The late, great Phil Hartman could do anything, including Ole' Blue Eyes baby,in the early 90's. |
Who was the better dancer? |
Swayze or Farley? |
