Casparis Cave May 2003... |
Well, I FINALLY made it underground again, after almost a year! :-( Much too long to be above ground! Don got some great pics on this trip. It's too bad I had to shrink them so much, as they loose a lot of clarity. Enjoy... |
<--- This area in the back of the cave is unique to the cave as it's the only section of "deep" muddy water. Don told me to go in first... but he never followed! This area also has some cool mud sculptures decorating the walls a little furher back. Unfortunately, Shawn's unicorn was long gone... |
An awesome bat picture... usually when you get this close, they get washed out by the flash. |
Another great pic by Don. Notice the water drop in mid-air towards the top of the pic. You can also see reflections in the water of the stalagtites up above that the dripping water is forming. Don, the master photographer, comes through again... LOL |
This is me in the upper section of the "Rain Room"... the biggest room in the cave, and home to many bats. This is just a very tiny section of the room, which is far to big to get a picture of the whole thing. |
This is just a pic of me at the "upper entrance" to the cave. Of all my trips to Casparis, this was my first time up there. Actually, this area is very difficult to access from inside the cave. The passage that leads to this is narrow enough that you have to squeeze through sideways, and it's an uphill, muddy battle. After a long, failed attempt from the inside, we decided to get there from the outside after we got out of the cave. Free climbing up to this area is possible, but not safe or recommended. It is much higher than the pic's perspective suggests. It can be accessed by climbing up to another entrance off to the the right, which isn't quite as high, and is a much easier climb, and then following s short passage to this area. If you're REALLY ambitious, and a little bored, you could aways rig from way up above and drop down the side of the rock face as well. Maybe we'll do that next time. ;-) |
