The Rat...
Perhaps it's a sickness!  I saw this '72 sitting a mere mile away from my house for about a month.  I finally stopped by and found that the owner wanted $1,200.  A day later (10-24-05) I had them down to $1,000 and was driving it home.  The  brake pedal didn't work whatsoever, but luckily the previous owner had misadjusted all four drums to the point that I could barely turn any of the wheels with the car jacked up.  Essentially, just let off the gas and your the brakes were already applied!
The car came with a bunch of new interior parts: new carpet, new steering wheel, under-dash tray, door panels (unfortunately cut for speakers).  There was also a new headliner and seat covers waiting to be installed, along with other misc. bits.  A much more civilized interior when compared to the Baja Beast.
While I like The Beast, I'm more a fan of the stock Beetle shape than the cut Baja look.

11/07/05 -  Let the games begin!  I had orginally thought I was going to install the Type 4 engine and tranny from The Beast, and was preparing the way here.  Afterwards, I changed my mind and decided to keep things simple with this car.  I sold The Beast and began work on this car.  Here it sits waiting for a new rear apron to be welded in.  Yes, I was kicking myself for cutting out the original one in the first place...  DOH!
