Islamized Armenians around
Malatia
It is noteworthy, that of 150 villages in the area, Armenian ones were very sparce during last years. Earlier, according to Tavernier, in Malatia and sorrounding areas, Armenians were found in much larger numbers, representing a proportion of 50 Armenians against each Turk or Kurd.
Later, many of these villages, presumably Armenian by origin, under oppressive rule of Turks, were islamized and turkified. Only handful of villages, located close to the city of Malatia, were saved or escaped this burden.
